Quick Google search. va·nil·la vəˈnilə/ noun 1. a substance obtained from vanilla beans or produced artificially and used to flavor sweet foods or to impart a fragrant scent to cosmetic preparations. "vanilla ice cream" 2. a tropical climbing orchid that has fragrant flowers and long podlike fruit. adjective informal 1. having no special or extra features; ordinary or standard. "choosing plain vanilla technology wherever you can will save you money" ^^^^ right there.

Im pretty sure it's becaues there like not mods, stuff like that and it's a fresh and new game
-
2 RepliesPlain, boring and you have to pay extra for toppings only to realise the ice cream is the best bit.
-
Usually any base is called vanilla. It has become a byword for the basic version. I suppose it has to do with vanilla ice cream being the basic ice cream. Dunno really. Maybe it has to do with vanilla sky.

Edited by Sanctus Michael: 7/16/2015 2:58:24 PMI realize this may be a serious question and you're getting a lot of jokers or people who don't know. Then the real answer comes but you may not know it as it's surrounded by BS. Vanilla is referred to, in many things including ice cream, as being plain. This was the best response you had:
The state in which a game launches is called its vanilla state. It means additional content has yet to be added to it.
It's the plain version of the game, the launch version, prior to dlcs, expansions, etc. This also include things like the economy changes of both TDB and HOW. It's not always referring to additional items like weapons, events, modes, and armor, but updates as well.

Cause after much marketing research. Activision found 7/10 guardians chose vanilla is their preferred choice over strawberry and chocolate
Banana is claimed by EA
-
Dark below is chocolate and house of wolves is strawberry Psych idk

1 ReplyBecause there are losers who think they're cool for playing a game before it gets better. Seems like "gamers" love to come up with little labels and nicknames for everything. It makes them feel important, part of the loop. It's just crap. Leave me alone I'm in a bad mood.
-
Why not?

1 ReplyThe term vanilla kinda bugs me, only because when I hear it I think "boring", not original. Like "ugh that party was so vanilla " But I get it, I know what it means, I just have to complain about something to feel like part of the forums.
-
What was available at launch usualy equals vanilla destiny with the exception of hard mode vog which was released after but is still considered apart of vanilla destiny
-
Vanilla = plain, original, nothing extra

Edited by MG_Death: 7/16/2015 2:36:24 PMVanilla + chocolate chip cookie dough = "hey, there's something dark below my vanilla." I don't have a quote for House of Wolves. I don't like wolf meat in my ice cream.
-
3 RepliesVanilla is the base game (ie, before any expansions). The origin of this I believe stems from the icecream industry. Vanilla is often used as the base then flavoring is added to get, for example, chocolate. It's most evident if you buy chocolate soft serve from the icecream truck guy.

because braums makes everything better
-
Stuff before expansions to put it in the simplest way
-
1 ReplyVanilla is a base, add cookie dough to it and you have cookie dough ice cream, add enough shit and you find yourself with New York Super Fudge Chunk.
Ben and Jerrys can send ice cream to my following address xxxxxxxxzzzzz Xxxxxxxxzzzzzzxz Xxxxxxxxsssaxzzz
Vanilla is a term that's been used in MMOs for a long time to describe a game before any expansion packs were released. The expansions add flavoring so to speak to the base.
-
Vanilla stands for the base game or original game. Everything available before TDB was vanilla.
-
4 RepliesEdited by Viguier: 7/16/2015 2:25:10 PMI think the "vanilla" is the normal version of Destiny, without the DLCs. But why "vanilla" and not chocolat ? I have no idea.
-
Vanilla refers to something as original or unaltered. By saying 'vanilla Destiny' you mean Destiny before any expansions.
-
MMO term. Kinda means "original".
