After waiting weeks to get my hands on the Shadow of Veils, I was immediately disappointed as soon as I picked it up. The Fallen specific perk is Shank Burn? How is that acceptable on a sniper rifle? Why would I even waste a bullet from a special weapon to take down a shank?
Sure, if made some pot shots at shanks before with a sniper, mainly when I'm at a long distance and I don't mind clearing out some extra enemies in quick succession. However, it's not something I do even close to regularly. With Shank Burn, Shadow of Veils feels like any other purple arc sniper rifle. There's not anything special about it.
Yeah, it looks cool. Sure it has a great scope with nice target acquisition. The reload speed isn't bad and there's a nice stability perk...but the gun, at best, is good. Not anywhere near the level of Praedyths or Black Hammer. This was supposed to be the third sniper in the end game set for year one. It doesn't feel like it fits with the other two at all.
When it comes down to it, Shadow of Veils is just another purple sniper. It's not a gun that should hold a place in end game tier weapons. It just doesn't hold up when you compare it to its raid level equivalents. Who thought this was a good idea?

Edited by bbychukr: 7/15/2015 5:35:22 PMSeriously ridiculous perk. Took 4 Skolas completions to get a primary with a burn. I got pulse rifle with solar burn. It's bad enough it has almost zero impact but to top it one of the perks is that it does "Moderate" damage to Fallen shanks. Has to be the biggest waste of a perk I've ever come across.

I think there's about 3 HoW weapons I've kept so far the rest I just dismantle

I wouldn't be so quick to presume that, just because it was done, it was genuine in its intent. It's clearly the dumbest thing ever and makes virtually all poe guns garbage in comparison to trials guns. What's that tell you?

The Fallen damage modifiers on the HoW weapons were poorly conceived, and since they replace what otherwise might be a useful perks, they're just not very desireable. They only excel in very niche applications, and since there's a limit to what we can carry and to how easily we can swap our gear, I just haven't found any of it to be worth it. The Trials of Osiris weapons are pretty appealing, but they require you to play Trials of Osiris. :-/

ON THE ROCKET LAUNCHER TOO

There's a rumor that there will be a giant shank boss in TTK. Don't know if it's true or not of course.

I suspect it's bungie trolling us. I can't imagine any gamer, designer, developer that would even remotely think this was a good idea As well as dreg damage on a shotgun

Most of the how fallen weapons suck. I dont even bother with them.
