All you people who say grimoire doesn't matter

Edit 3: Okay putting this at the top of the post since people can't read edits. (Not trying to be an ass) I never said that low grimoire makes you ab underachiever. And having a high one doesn't make you the best in the world. All i'm saying is that, with the way Destiny is structured right now, grimoire score serves as an experience gauge. Which I feel was it's original purpose. Not necessarily skill, but more often than now, people who play a game more tend to play better. Of course if you have low grimoire that doesn't mean you're a new player, but time is not always equal to experience. Ghosts are only around 550 points, so you can't say the grimoire is all ghosts. I have friends who have low grimoire, but I don't go around calling them inexperienced scrubs even though they've played with me since launch. But lets say I go on lfg. I don't know you, and I don't know how you play. You could lie about any achievements you have made in the game. But 1 thing doesn't Lie: Grimoire score. So if someone uses grimoire as a filter, don't automatically assume them an elitist, just as you wouldn't want people to assume anyone with low grimoire is a scrub. I really didn't think this post would pffend anyone, but if it did, I apologize. _Original Post down below______________ You're wrong. This might have been the case before HoW. But now, with it so easy to hit 30, grimoire is the easiest way to asses someones experience without looking them up on DTR. Yesterday I was grinding Dragon (for that elusive Hopscoth Pilgrim) and 1 of my teamates was a lvl 32 with 1700 grimoire. HE WAS USING A GREEN MG. With it so easy to hit higher levels in HoW, grimoire is the easiest way to see how experienced someone is. I personally don't use more extreme scores like 3200+, but if you're below 2800 and you can't tell me personally how you can be a benefit, chances are I won't play with you. It ain't personal.
this is usually for more hard activities like POE or ToO
Edit: I misused the word skill. I meant experience. You can raise your grimoire without ghost hunting. I have all the dead ghosts but im still around 200 short of max grimoire. You can still do good with a low grimoire. I have a friend with below 2800 grimoire who has beaten skolas and gone flawless multiple times. Another one of my friends litterally bought Destiny when HoW came out, and we helped him reach 33 real fast. If there was no grimoire score, you wouldn't have anyway to tell he has only been playing since HoW. When I said it mattered, I was talking about LFG. If you're a 32 with 2100 grimoire, I know that you have low experience in the game. I'm not going to not play with people I know if they have low grimoire, but if none of my friends are online and I have to use LFG for something, chances are if I meet you on LFG, I don't know you, I don't know your play style, and any endgame you've done for all I know you were carried through. So I look to the one thing you can't hide or deny. Grimoire. Edit 2: Wow 400 replies. Love seeing your points of view.

  • So I need to grind 3000 kills with a pos auto rifle to say I can play? And run the same story mission 100 times to get ogre kills? That's what makes a player good?

  • Only problem I see with the grimore judging.. Some players "myself included" do not like destiny's pvp mode, or just don't play pvp for whatever reason...& this affects grimore. Then we get judged when others are looking for teammates to do pve content. Not really a problem for me as I'm almost at 3100 with very little pvp. Just saying...if you try to judge my experience by my grimore score, you would be wrong......especially if you think I would decent at pvp because I'm over 3000

    • Grimoire has NOTHING to do with skill or experience. There are so many ghosts hidden in places where you'd have to just spend hours searching in every corner of every map to find them. The ghosts - therefore, the grimoire - are merely a fun secondary objective that tell the story of Destiny, nothing more.

    • Its a digital d**k measuring contest. It means you are willing to repeat modes and guns you dont really enjoy or like just to strut about thinking youre special with your worthless digital score.

      • I judge people with grimoire the same way I judge people with driving. When driving, people slower than me are idiots while people faster than me are lunatics. But with grimoire, people with less than me should git gud while those with more should git a life.

      • High grimoire is a PvE indication which I found to be pretty reliable. In PvP I noticed grimoire to be way less important.

      • Grimoire doesn't matter MUCH! I know players with 0.7 k/d in PvP and max Grimoire... That statement comes from a player with 3480 GP.

          • Currently at 3630 I'm sure there's a lot of people who have 3 34s and have nothing left to do. Grimoire just added another challenge for me and gives me something to do in destiny.

          • The only prob with this is if you switched over from xbox 360 to ps4 or ps3 to xbox1 and got destiny again then your grimoire score wont reflect your experience :///

I mostly agree with this. I've seen decent pvpers with 2400ish grimoire, but I definitely look at grimoire first to gauge people in trials. Gear second (I usually check their int/str/disc stats) and it's usually accurate. A couple times it didn't match up, but I'd say 95% of the time it's a good way to figure out their pvp experience.

            • 3200+, now guess how many times I've gone flawless, yeah that many, now ask how many dregs I've killed, because that's what grimoire is really for.

              • I was a acc with under 1000 grimscore like lvl30 and basicly carried a team of 34s threw vog hard. Experience shows experience grim score means nothing.

My grimoire is low, but I only play warlock, I primarily play PvP, and I still have 600+ hours into the game... Edit: The only PvE activities I haven't done are Crota Hard and PoE 35

                  • Plot twist. I started a new account that will have low grimoire for a while yet this account has 3500+. Can't wait to raid like a pro on a low grimoire account.

                  • I would agree to an extent. But playing low level stuff or any raid you don't have to kick them just for that. Skolas is a different story. High grimoire has some correlation with experience but not as much with actual skill and performance
