what youre really asking for is called Transmogification. Freely change the look of your character without effecting the currently equipped stats. so now you can LOOK like multiple exotics at once, but in realtiy, only one is equipped. With your version, its not purely cosmetic. youre only taking out the perk but stats and other perks still stand so theres still some advantage. with transmogification, you keep only 1 exotic equipped but change the legendaries to look like exotics without effecting their stats. its a somewhat common mechanic in large rpgs. Now i brought up an idea with Exotic "Sets." Quite simply, you can equip multiple exotics at one time as long as they belong to the same set. They could have a tagline that must match. From there, for each piece equipped, you gain some perk--nothing too op. could be increased ammo carrying capacity. something used in many rpgs but destiny could be tweaked for balancing.

  • If you remove the exotic perk the armor is perfectly balanced with any other legendary gear from the game

  • Plus, Transmog is much more open ended than what you're asking. Some games have you unlock bundles or themes for certain gear so you can alter your look. Others require you to at least own the equipment at some point in play and the look permanently becomes yours. So you can delete the piece but still look like it in the future at your own leisure.

  • Transmog would be ideal. This would be fun because we could collect the legendary gear with the perks we want and then collect a second set of exotic gear that we want to use as the skin for said legendary gear. I've been saving two of each exotic for a while now just incase

  • Exactly. It's a simpler and no possible hassle with core gameplay. As mentioned, it's quite common in large rpg's, just each do it in some different version. For example ESO, allows you to craft items to look a specific way as long as you have researched a race and have a specific item. But then you can have whatever stats you want. Diablo 3 just needs you to acquire that item but then you can permanently look like it even if you delete it. No matter what, there's no toying with mechanics. It's all for looks.

  • https://www.bungie.net/en/Armory/Category?order=5&stat=3897883278&dir=2&categories=20%2C22%2C47 No its not. Exotic armor has additional perks that is not given to Legendary equipment for example: chest pieces get additional Heavy ammo. Also, Exotics have increased defense ratings, increased Light, and higher/specialized light attributes. Unfortunately, what you're offering would not be "purely cosmetic" or "perfectly balanced" with Legendary gear. It's just easier to do the Transmogrification since it IS purely cosmetic with no possible dispute.

In my armor inventory, my legendary armor pieces have the exact same defense rating as my exotic armor, the strength, intellect and discipline aren't favored within exotic armor either. Having more than one "carry more heavy ammo" perk doesn't stack when you have two gear pieces with that perk. Gjallarhorn still maxes at 7 rounds and truth still maxes at 8 rounds so that wouldn't add any benefit. I've looked through the armor perks for exotics and they have 2 base perks that legendary armor also could have and one exotic perk if you take away the exotic perk it will not have an upper hand. I have armor in my collection that easily competes with the exotic armor if they didn't have their exotic perks but they don't look as good. The extra heavy ammo perk is on several legendary gear pieces. Mostly boots but its a real thing. All raid boots have that perk and I obtained the trials boots a couple weeks ago that also have that perk.

  • I won't debate this any further because it will never get implemented. All i'll say is it's easier to do Transmog which has ZERO attachments to mechanics of gameplay plus has a much greater variety in player control of inventory and looks. It's purely cosmetic. What you suggest does have some tweaks with mechanics in place right now and is NOT purely cosmetic as you may think. PLUS, you have to keep your inventory if you want to look a specific way. Just not that effective with this game's current system.
