More than enough.
-
I play with less and 99% of the time it is fine

2 RepliesThat should be plenty for gaming, assuming you are getting at least 1Mbps Up as well. Assuming that's the case, your main concern should be your ping, jitter, and packet loss. I'm assuming you understand what PING means. "Jitter" is essentially inconsistencies in repeated ping times, and "packet loss" is data sent not being recieved, requiring it be sent again. If you have a high Ping, Jitter or ANY packet loss, you WILL lag, and have frequent disconnects. You can use a simple site like pingtest.net to test for jitter/packet loss. Using a wireless connection is the main cause for jitter/packet loss, so use a wired connection whenever possible. Lastly, you want Open NAT, which should be the case as long as you have a UPnP router, and UPnP is enabled. You shouldn't need to Port forward or DMZ, and Port Forwarding/DMZ should only be done as a last resort. Keep in mind on Playstation NAT 1 OR 2 is Open. On XBOX NAT 1 is Open. All that said, you can do everything 100% right, and have a "perfect" connection, but you will still see lag on occasion due to the poor connection of one or more of your game lobby members. Good luck.

13 RepliesEdited by Shadow Artiste: 7/11/2015 11:22:49 PM5 Mbps is enough. Anything above that is not going to make your games run smoother. Most lag is caused by latency and the distance a signal has to travel. I get 50mbps down and I live in Australia so I will lag when connecting to an American host/server and they'll lag when connecting to me. No matter how many Mbps you're getting, signals still take time to move across the planet. Most people don't understand these simple facts and blame lag on their opponent's slow internet speeds or cry "lag switcher!"
-
It all comes done to your ping distance. Unless your downloading stuff
-
Its all about ping speed, your up and down doesn't mean very much gaming wise unless you're downloading a game or dlc
-
2 RepliesShould be enough. Most of the time, the quality of your connections has more to do with how the rest of your Internet in your area works. I'm in a pretty large city(Charlotte, NC) where soon Google fiber is going to disrupt the current Internet market. It's also a big time banking city. The infrastructure here is pretty decent, plus the fiber line for my isp is in my front yard... So I'm very good. My friend 2 hours out of town has a pretty bad isp. His signal has to go through some crap to get to the game servers. My experience is great, his is far from it. Sadly it is going to be mostly out of your hands. Do some testing. Good luck!

Im in South Africa. My wifi only downloads 2 megs in 15 secs
-
Most video games only need 2 Mbps. All depends on the ping. 10 will be totally fine unless you have 5 other people online downloading stuff
-
Your download speed isn't all that important. It's all about the latency you could have a 5mb speed and connect to local players having a low latency and the game runs smoothly. Whereas you could have 50mb speed connecting to players on otherside of the planet and game runs terribly due to high latency. I have had various speeds and have never noticed any difference.
-
No. Not for games that require a lot of online play (which destiny does). If it's just you at home, a 50/50mbps download over upload would be fine. However a 75/75 will be much stronger and if you are not living alone, a stronger connection overall.
-
What's your ping? I've heard under 50 is good.
-
You look cute today
-
I use 3: 20 mbps simetrical, 50 mbps standard and 5 mbps (dsl) and its the same laggy servers-idiot-bungie-sony.setvice
-
Matters if u connect to someone's box in another country. In that case maybe not. Bungie get dedicated regional servers. Please. That is why some ppl red bar with good connections. I always wondered at first why I was playing with Australians (U.S.). Total red bar then.
-
3 RepliesI have 5 and under. Yet I rarely disconnect. Lag is another matter but it's not that bad.
-
-
I'm 5mbs and I'm fine
-
I know people who play in less than that and have a decent connection.
-
2 Replies10+ is fine
-
24 Repliesassuming your ping is good and you have at least 1.5-3Mbps up - yeah...should be more than enough. PING is key for games like these...not speed.
-
1 ReplyYes, even 2mb
-
3 RepliesEdited by ccSPiTFiRΞ: 7/12/2015 5:09:42 AMIt should be just fine, I ran 2 mbps since Beta with no issues in PVE / PVP.
-
3 RepliesYeah, 3mbps is the recommended gaming speed. But there's a lot more than mbps that effects online play.
-
2 RepliesYes. I have 1.9 and can play with zero lags. (but yellow bar all the time)
-
I only get .5 mbs due to my shitty router and shitty ISP
