Etheric Light - Good Idea, or Bad Idea?

Yes, keep older weapons and gear current & usable

216

No, let older weapons and gear become obsolete

I'd be interested to know what the community thinks about Etheric Light, and the ability to keep your old gear fresh and relevant. Should future DLC continue giving us the ability to bring older weapons and armor to the current light level? While I am genuinely interested in hearing the community's thoughts on this, I will post my own opinion. Just don't let it sway your vote one way or the other. Personally, I loved this idea. I absolutely love being able to use my favorite weapons from the past. I love being able to customize my guardian's look by using older armor with a different look, without sacrificing light level. I think it was a fantastic move on Bungie's part, to keep the entire game relevant. I think it would be a mistake to let a piece of the game die out and become irrelevant and obsolete. However, the one stipulation to my opinion is that we need to have an adequate vault space to keep all this stuff, but I've said plenty enough about that. Not that Bungie cares... Leave a comment with an explanation why you voted the way you did. Thanks for participating!

  • That being said I feel the Etheric light took the entire grind out of the game and now everyone is level 34

    • Our Favorite Weapons should stay with us the entire 10 years. Many of us Grinded multiple Hours for a Single Weapon, the FB for example. To become Legend, we Need to have signature Weapons. And as Long Bungie isnt able to create new Weapons which can compete with the VoG primaries or the CE Special and Heavy Weapons, they should give us the Chance to ascendent old weapons. Sry for my Bad english, its not my primary Language

    • It's great but it needs to be more attainable. Also, it will be pointless in the long run unless they make it so that vendors sell updated versions of all the weapons they've ever had on some sort of daily or weekly rotating basis.

I'm pretty sure Etheric Light is a Year 1 thing only. Makes sense to me. Bungie would want us to use the new weapons on offer. The new attack power won't be the biggest deal for this expansion, since when TDB came out, Fatebringer was still the dominant Hand Cannon, even with the lower attack power, but eventually the old weapons should be phased out, just for progress' sake.

      • I like the old weapons way more then the new, only the Exotics are just as cool. A little bit more bankspace would indeed work out:P

      • I love my old weapons, but if the game is to evolve then so do the weapons. As for armour, it will depend on what sort of new perks it gives you and how it looks I guess. Im happy to get new equipment to replace my old equipment as long as it is comparable to the old stuff. The HoW armour and weapons are fairly poor, with then being specifically good in PoE, so I prefer more generic armour perks, hence why most of my 34 srmour is standard armour that has been ascended. TL/DR - new equipment needs to be comparable in performance to old gear and needs to be versatile

        • Nothing says that our old gear will being useless or will be stuck at max year 1 value. Etheric light just says it upgrades to the max that's available in year 1.

I'm not a fan of keeping the same weapons forever, I want to use new gear. As it stands now, the drops from PoE are shocking compared to the VoG drops, there is almost no reason why you would take any of the PoE weapons over the older weapons now. I want to feel a sense of progression in the game, that was present in the dark below, just not in HoW. I think in future you should have the option to dismantle an old weapon but keep 1 perk from it and add it to a new weapon of the same type. Would mean that you would be progressing your power level whilst keeping some of the flavour from your old weapons. This would also keep old content relevant but not at the cost of new content, want firefly on your hand cannon, get yourself fatebringer from VoG, dismantle and add the perk to your new, more powerful hand cannon.

            • Also I see some guns from vanilla destiny, way back like the fair and square pulse rifle I saw today, but only did 267 dmg but had great rolls. It would be awsome to have relics like that doing 365 dmg.

              • Etheric Light was one of the best ideas Bungie came up with - Before Etheric Light we couldn't choose what pieces of armour we wanted to wear, we always had to use the armour with higher Light. Etheric Light breaks the barrier and allows you to finally customize your Guardian to your heart's content!
