Shield of Mythics was for members with more than 7 years on b.net when Destiny launched. My Hunter has it. There were also emblems for Legendary and Heroic members.
Also pretty sure Rune of the Machine is sold by the Tower vendor who sells emblems and shaders.

I thought the Heroic/Legendary/Mythic status was post count/activity rather than length of time on the forums? And you could lose that status if you didn't keep up. Otherwise I'd definitely have Mythic. I got heroic on the old forums once but I'm one of the unlucky people that didn't get the emblem.
