Basically, the community manager is the link between the community, and the publisher and/or development team. Positioned between customer support and the public relations, his role is really diverse and includes the management of community tools provided to the players, the organization of events (both in-game and real), the transmission of information from the dev team to the community, and the transmission of reports, feedback and suggestions from the community to the team.
How is he not doing his job?

Edit: after reading your post I'll tell you what I think. DeeJ isn't our friend. He's not our raid buddy that carries the sword. He's the community manager. As long as he's telling bungie Devs "hey look at the exotic handcannons" "hey maybe check auto rifles too" and providing us with weekly information. He's fulfilling that role. If he wants to try and step outside that role and be something else as well, fine. Regardless DeeJ isn't required anywhere in the job description of "community manager" to respond to people on the Bungie forums. Hell if anything I'd expect a social media manager to handle that field.

Exactly I bet he would reply to more if all the stuff on the forums wasn't : this is OP , this isn't op , if your not x your a noob , if your not x your a pro and Deej is **** at his job.

I suppose you're right. If the weekly updates weren't just filler info then I'd be happier. Did you ever read the update we'll never get by that Ben guy? If the updates were things like that then I'd think differently

You also have to remember Deejs ability to tell us things is 100% completely in the Devs hands. He has no choice in what he tells us, that's why he avoids 8/10 questions in interviews. He just simply can't answer them. Hell I prefer it this way. We're still 3 months away from TTK so unveiling everything now would just leave nothing to show to hype people up closer to a month from release. It's psychology 101, people knowing what they'll get 3 months before are 3x less excited as people who find out a month before.

Sure they can't unveil everything now but is it really that hard for bungie to say whether or not the digital upgrade extends to the taken king

I don't know...I'm still pretty excited for fallout 4
