People, let's be logical.
Let's assume for at least the next paragraph you are able to use good, logistical thought processes.
What I am about to say may take you by COMPLETE surprise.(sarcasm)
If you paid $60 for destiny and bought $20 DLC and you think $40 more is too much consider this.
An average movie ticket price in 2014 was $8.17
An average movie length in 2014 was 120 minutes (2 hours)
You would have payed about $4.08 per hour of entertainment.
On the other hand:
$60 for base game of destiny
$20 for DLC
The average time played per player is a bit beyond 80hrs per player
Even using a base figure of 80 hours with $80 in
You would have paid only $1 per hour of entertainment.
You'll spend more one night out on dinner and a movie than you would for all the time you've played in this game.
You've gotten your money's worth.
You aren't losing out.
Edit 1: lots of complainers here have a lot of hours played. If you don't like destiny then quit. And if you think it's a rip off don't buy it. Otherwise you have no argument.
Edit 2: still no explanation why you would have even 100 hours or more into a game you think isn't good.
The people who weren't satisfied already quit, they aren't here making excuses.

Edited by weirdboy99: 7/8/2015 10:56:27 AMI disagree with your logic. First I payed 69$ for the base game, which I find to be a fair price. If the price of a DLC is about 35% of the base game it should contain about 35% as much content, which it does not. Even worse they just reused assets that were already in the game and most of the foundation was already done. But Destiny is not alone in this,in fact BF and CoD DLC,s are even worse than Destiny. Secondly, you do not measure time spend with money spend, that comparesment does not hold up,time is just another resource spend at the game. BTW comparing games with dinner and movies is unlogical, they are fundamentaly very different things. These argument are stricktly based on the first 2 DLC,s,because nobody knows the actual content of TTK,I'll reserve my judgment untill it comes out,but I'm slightly positive that things will improve. Also your first edit is unvalid,I do disagree with Destiny,s buisness model but I still like the game enough to keep playing it,not liking the pricing and liking the game are not mutual exclusive. Hell I think Bungie made, and still make,a lot of bad design decisions and I still enjoy playing it.

I'll probably get it but not at launch prices...will wait for special/psn discount/paypal voucher...something
-
Yeah well at least I would of got a decent story if I went to the movies.
-
Very bad explanation, You cannot simply divide the cost and hour to equal value... Everything we spend our money on has different values and beneficial utility for the price paid... Yeah so what a movie ticket cost $8+ for a couple hours of entertainment but i assure you if we related all our decisions to cost/hours basis, movie tickets and buying movies would be illogical... Same goes with a nice steak dinner... Yeah it costs $30+ for a decent steak meal why not buy pbj & bread at the super mart for less than 10 bucks which can make 10+ "meals". Its all about value and utility gained. For those that are fortunate enough to afford to eat out, they value a nice meal meaning that the benefits of eating that steak dinner out weigh its cost. Utility received differs from person to person so some may value so i see your point in that the amount of hours you play for what you paid for is a good deal but to some of us that want a game to kick back with and play once in a while the price v content we receive especially in the past 2 dlc has not come to fruition in terms of cost benefit imo

That is not the point what happens if everyone says sod it and buys it for 40 dollars/40 pound sterling, then when it's time for year 3 and they put it up another 20 pound/dollars for a dlc there will be floods of tears you got to nip it in the bud now or they grind your wallet greed is greed at the end of the day.
-
I agree with everything you have said however it doesn't change the fact in the US it is $40 and over here in the UK it is £40 when it is about £1=$1.50 (Last time I checked)

1 ReplyEdited by HaloFanatic: 7/8/2015 9:46:57 AMI think you forgot a factor called quality.

You desperate for attention or something. MUTED!!!
-
Totally agree. What other matrix are you going to use to determine the value/playability of a video game? If bungie has data supporting game play that averages 1-3 hours per day and total hours played is in the hundreds of hours (some even over 1000 hours) what other conclusion are they to come to other than they have a "high value" product? If someone went to the theater 50 times to see the same movie and complaine about it every time because they said the previews looked awesome, who is the bigger fool? In a business based on economics (free market determines true value) time spent playing is a reliable gauge. So, when you say the game is bad, but continue to spend time playing it you are sending a clear message.

Ignorant OP is ignorant.
-
This is your opinion and is based off of personal experience. It does not mean you're right. And to tell other people they're complaining or their opinions on the DLC/game are wrong, is extremely ignorant.
-
it isn't that great, it's just addicting for people who like collecting shit, even if you don't in real life you are gonna like to collect shit on games

Edited by wizardeiges: 7/8/2015 9:25:29 AMYou're right! 3 class mods and other cosmetic items so few in number is 20$ So this dlc should be about 2000$ or more. How about you make a petition to raise the price to that of a house or a car? You should do the same for the base game too because of all the shaders in it! Best idea ever? Best idea ever -blam!- I can't wait to pay them to beta test this dlc for them too since they don't know how to test raids themselves and fix game breaking glitches
-
1 Reply40 is a lot to ask for when the devs ignore the community, don't put matchmaking, no vault space, and no dedicated servers. So yeah 40 TTK is too much. It should be around 20. I've bought dlc for many games and this is not my first rodeo so for bungie to act like we're going to throw $ at the screen is disrespectful. I still get error codes daily and I have perfect internet speeds at my house. I can play any game without any problems. Only Destiny gives me "zebra, beetle, cow, rabbit, Anteater, etc" the list is long as hell for error codes on this game. So if they ask top dollar for dlc but don't fix their servers or LISTEN TO COMMUNITY, than I won't be buying it.

Money spent to time spent, it's a bargain. Prove me wrong...
You can't :)
7 RepliesFor content that should have been there originally, it is pretty overpriced
-
This crap again. The DLC is not a movie, its not s fricking night out. This is just a fanboy trying to justify the rip off price trotting out the same old fanboy pish. Tell you what, lets compare Destiny DLC prices with what else is out there .. I paid £20 for the Driveclub DLC and it has given me about FOUR TIMES the content of the original game. When you compare the content of the Destiny DLC that, if you buy TDB, HOW and TTK will cost £80 .. It IS NOT value for money. No sane person could claim it is in that context One other thing, whether something is value or not is dependent on the person. If you want to pay their prices then go ahead, but picking a comparison with food while ignoring the glaring rip off that it is compared to other DLC available is just bearding the elephant in the room.
-
But let's be honest, most of that time was spent mindlessly grinding strikes that you've already done 10000+ times or else going from one cave to another to find spirit blooms. Videogame hours should only be counted if you're having fun, not if you're hopelessly addicted to doing mindless and pointless tasks for a chance that you might find something good.
-
4 RepliesIt's a bit of a rip off if you aren't American, I'm paying $60+ for TTK, but I'm still buying it, why because I have had more than my money's worth from Destiny, I have about 40 something days play time, with less than a day in the last month, I have done everything and the weather is good. So I'm happy with paying the £40 for it, I'm still gonna get my money's worth from that too. I would like Bungie and or Activision to explain the bonkers price tag in other nations.
