I find rare engrams useful
I've only had destiny for just a little over a month and getting motes of light and strange coins from rare engrams is very helpful.
Unlike other players that started in the first few months of destiny I don't own every exotic or have 300+ shards and energy to make into motes. And I find getting every exotic xur sells on Fridays impossible if it wasn't for rare engrams.

rare engrams give you rare armors and weapons though?

Yeah I completely glossed over what you posted, my bad. While rare armor isn't as useful having the game for only a month rare armor still gives you plates and wire to level up legendary armor

if you'd read my post better, you'd find that I said rare ARMOR ISN'T useful and rare ENGRAMS ARE useful
