Betrayals | An in-depth breakdown (UPDATED 1ST POST)

Wall of text to follow, if you are here on the intent to flame, spam, hijack, troll, etc, then get out. ---- Alright, so as you may know from my other threads, I have really been wondering about the betrayals/boot system, so, I've been looking and thinking about it alot recently. ---- There are different types of betrayals: 1. Deliberate + Intentional betrayals: These usually piss people off the most, knowing that your teammate is deliberately trying to kill/get your shields down. Boot? Yes. 2. Accidental Betrayals: These can range from accidently killing a teammate if you are trying to help him/her kill the enemy, and things like that. Boot? It depends. If the person apologizes, then I wouldn't, but if it happens multiple times from the same person, then yes. 3. Self-caused betrayals: What I mean by this, is when a teammate knows you are sniping, etc, and walk infront of your line of fire. In these cases, it is nobody's fault but the victim. Boot? No, it was your stupidity to do so and get betrayed. 4. Luck-based betrayals: Sometimes you, or a teammate is in the wrong place in the wrong time. For example, the spawn points. If you, or a teammate is on a mad spalattering spree in his/her ghost, and you, or a teammate spawn, and they get betrayed, tough luck. To use a personal scenario, I was on Avalanche, I was lasering a scorpion tank, and a guy spawns in front of me, and I betray him. Boot? No, I would not. My next subject here is booting. Say you were betrayed. The "Boot Player" dialogue appears. What do you do? Here are some things to consider when deciding your betrayers fate: 1. Why did the guy betray you? How were you betrayed? (read above) 2. What impact will it have if the guy is booted? If he the best on the team? 3. Has the player apologized to you? If the player is doing good, and it was an accidental betrayal, then don't boot him. There is no reason whatsoever to be so selfish, and boot a player that is actually benefiting your team. Same goes for if the guy was trying to help you in a situation, and accidently killed you. Dont boot him. If the betrayal was deliberate, eg. for a weapon, to end a spree, etc, your first thought would be "boot". If they are absolutely doing nothing for your team, then it would be appropriate to boot. If they are doing very well, and are helping your teams' success, then give them another chance. If they do it again, then boot 'em. EDIT: My theory for the booting system for whether or whether not it comes up is your history of betrayals...so for example, If you're a guy who doesnt usually betray, if you betray, the dialogue wont pop up, and if you do have a history of betrayals, you have a chance of getting booted every time you betray. ---- I hope this post will help people learn that there's more to a betrayal than deliberate, and to think before you hit the 'boot player' button. ---- More scenarios: On Standoff. 2 Flag heavy. Guy with the flag is running off. I charge my laser up. My teammate has a warthog there. The guy is jumping towards the warthog. I laser the guy, but just BARELY clip the warthog. Betrayal. I put my mic on, and apologize, atleast try to, before I was booted. I would NEVER boot someone for something like this, but I did boot a few people last night too: 1. I pick up a full laser. Teammate charges his laser. Bam. He was aiming for me. He comes over and teabags me and picks up my full laser. Bull-blam!-. 2. Guy blow up my warthog in Rat's Nest and melees my in the driver seat until I die. Booted. [Edited on 02.01.2009 3:24 PM PST]

 • Most of the time, I give people a second chance. If they do it twice, you know it wasn't accidental. I will betray my husband for a vehicle, since he sucks in most of them - just check out my wheelmans. My little brother betrays me for the ghost sometimes, but since it's him, I don't care.

 • Let's keep this alive. UPDATE: So far, it's been a bit better. I haven't gotten booted for over a couple months now, and I'm happy. I HAVE had to boot numerous times, though, people betraying for weapons....

 •
Posted by: Shane200889 yeah usually if I get betrayed twice then the boot screen will appear and I will boot them depending on the situation and if they apologize
Bringing this thread back up. @Shane200889 - That is what most people SHOULD do, yet some people just automatically press 'x' when the booting screen comes up.

 • Damn it, lol. Another experience here: Yesterday: CTF: Sandtrap. I get the laser, and my teammate starts shooting me. I run away. He starts shooting me again, and kills me. Ni boot option. I turn my mic on, and give him some hell, because, I got the laser first, then he starts blabbing about how 1337 he is with it, etc, etc. He betrays me. I boot. Turns out He had 3 guests, and 2 other players in his party.....haha. He deserved it, thiough.

 • One thing I HATE HATE HATE..... A player has several guests and they end up getting put on opposite teams. Most times I find that I get betrayed when that happens. Effed up! <3 OrganizedCrime

 • I played a match once where this triggerhappy idiot kept shooting me and other teammates on a big team social match. He would always stop before killing us, so it was an annoyance, until he got my shields low with his AR and I died during a BR fight with some other guy. I died four times because of him, so I got pissed and sniped him the first chance I got the sniper rifle. I got booted, but it was worth it.

 • It is a much better system than in Halo 2. I remember some games in Halo 2, when your about to pick up a weapon or hop in a vehicle. You would have to press X. Sometimes you were betrayed as you were about to do this. And you click the X button, as intended to either, pick up a weapon or hop in a vehicle. Pitty for your buddy, that the same X button boots him from the game. Yes do think, I was booted in a game on halo 3. When i told the warthog driver, don't drive back I have placed a Trip Mine. He drives back blows up and boots me. I had over 30 kills in that BTB game.

 •
Posted by: deadEcho419 There maybe another reason for betrayals. I "think" if you get booted you do not earn negative exp. "IF" that’s the case then people betray at the beginning of the game so they can change out of a game or map they don't like. Maybe they got separated from their guest. I have heard this in pre game lobby; one side says" you got separated from us, no worries just betray out”. So usually when I get deliberately betrayed I figure they just want to leave the game, and it’s nothing personal.
No, you do decrease EXP, and can decrease skill. Happened to me once on an accident.

 • Right, it is wrong. But I ONLY do it if I KNOW that they're just messing around. I mean if I'm walking with the flag, and the field is clear, and die, and you score. I'm coming to get you. Other than that I mind my own business.
