Scout Rifle is the way to go if you want to remain competitive without using Thorn, The Last Word, or Red Death. Enough range and impact to knock 'em down from across the map, with the benefit of a faster rate of fire. My personal favorite: One/One Synesthete (Warlock) –Full Auto –Small Bore –Crowd Control It's equally effective against Hand Cannons, Shotguns, and Sniper Rifles on pretty much every map. Surprisingly, fusion rifles have been my biggest competitors, simply because they charge faster than I can kill within their ideal range. Otherwise, Iron Banner's been pretty straightforward.

  • I have this same roll. Its a great gun. I accended it to 365 and I love it. However, it is still no match for a Thorn at any range. The only gun that can go toe to toe with a thorn is another thorn.

  • Depends on who gets the jump on who. Many times though, you're right. Best case scenario in most cases is you get the kill, then burn to death.

  • Problem is not many maps allow you to create a decent distance between you and your opponent. If there werent as many CQ maps then scouts would be more viable.

  • There are plenty of lines of sight that make the Scout Rifle more effective than other weapons classes, you just have to find them. Don't just rush straight into closed spaces or sit on control points without some kind of CQC weapon.Granted, Hand Cannons have a pretty impressive range, and WILL be competitive, but the increased rate of fire is typically enough to throw off your opponents aim enough to come out on top. I'm not just spewing BS to hear myself talk, I ran IB all night with that weapon and other similar Scout Rifles and won plenty of gunfights with the OP exotics that we're all familiar with. What people fail to consider is that maybe you're just getting out-played. Positioning, cover, suppression, support, numbers... all these things affect the outcome of your encounters, and if you don't have the advantage in one or more of these criteria, it's likely you're going to die. I have nothing against Thorn and The Last Word users. If you want to hamstring yourself by getting comfortable on a crutch weapon, that's fine with me. I used them once, but then I found more fun in trying to familiarize myself with the other weapon types and develop real gun skills. Hand Cannon, Auto Rifle, Scout, or Pulse... I use them all and can adapt to the playstyle of my enemies. Learn the strengths/weakness of your weapons and adjust accordingly to the map selection. It's that simple.

  • Well said from start to finish. I stick with my trusty scout rifles, but often am found trialing various other weapons to become familiar with their play style. I agree on the point that Thorn is a very powerful weapon, but it's not unbeatable. I've dropped Thorn users more then I can count and often get called a cheater for doing so.
