Why is the warthog faster than the mongoose?
It seems to me that the only thing the mongoose is meant for is speed and a quick transport. The hog has a turret, so it's a killing machine. The mongoose has no offensive measures of attack, so wouldn't it make sense for it to be faster than a warthog? It just feels like it should be. It's obviously no big deal, it still functions great, but i thought it would at least be faster than a hog.

if anybody DOES believe that the mongoose is faster, race the two side by side, and you'll see the warthog pull ahead pretty quick. not just off the start but continuously get farther. and I know that it makes sense for the mongoose to be slower, but I thought Bungie would make it so that it was faster. The manuverability is an important factor though, it has something there.

The warthog obviously has a more powerful engine, which means that it can go faster, even when carrying a heavy load.

The Mongoose is a disposable vehicle. Most maps that have Warthogs have probably twice as many Mongeese. There really isn't any need to make every vehicle "balanced" (i.e. make the Mongoose faster because it is weaker offensively). Some vehicles are just better than others. Mongoose < "Hog < Scorpion. The disposable quality of the Mongoose is actually what makes it useful. Nobody's gonna complain if you drive a Mongoose into the middle of a battle and abandon it. Try that with a "Hog, and see how your team responds.

They have the same top speed, but the mongoose is faster for shorter distances.

Warthog has a V8, mongoose has maybe a straight 4. Warthogs engine is more powerful. Simple.

Second from my experiance the Hog is a tad bit faster than the Goose. Possible game tweak? But in theory the Hog should go a bit faster because it has 4 wheel drive thus requiring a bigger more powerful engine.

I've done speed tests with my friends. In the short term, the Mongoose always comes out on top, but after about 4 or 5 seconds of accelerating the Warthog passes it. [Edited on 01.25.2009 1:31 PM PST]

the warthog is faster in halo 2, so they toned it down a bit and the mongoose isnt necessarily supposed to be that fast but meant for quick hop-in/hop-out situations for ctf , assault, etc.

The speed of the Mongoose is not necessarily it's advantage. What makes it a valuable transportation tool is its low tactical value; it can be used to move one or two guys into place quickly, then be forgotten. So forget about whether it's faster or whatever. It just that it's cheaper to waste than a Warthog.

Mongooses blow up from one or two melees. It takes like 8 to blow a warthog.

Warthog is the easiest thing to kill though, *sticky *rocket *laser *Gaurdian *Everything, A mongoose is tiny and can fit through tight spaces, and its incredibly hard to damage by ramming it, it rolls but is a fast spawner and used almost 85% in objective games

It isn't faster. Both have a top speed of 60mph. The hog has more weight and better acceleration.

Just race them side by side and you'll see it.
