New people are playing all the time. With leveling up becoming faster with each new dlc and gear super easy to get, I wouldn't be surprised that you don't have nubs in the group. Instead of assuming they know the strat, just go over it so they know. Not a lot of players run VoG as much as they once did.
Just take your time and be patient, we where all there once.

You're right. Would be easier if I had a mic though. Guess I gotta be patient enough for them to understand the mechanics on their own.
