Alright, so I get that some people are offended by the rebel flag. According to its critics, this is primarily because it was flown by an institution that supported slavery, and later by the KKK. Now, I could go on for the rest of this post about how it stands for southern pride and not white supremacy, and about how the majority of people who fly it do so not because they hate other races, but because they love their home. But let's face it, we've all heard those arguments. I wouldn't be bringing any new thoughts to the table if I did that. So instead, I'll provide a counterexample.
The flag of the United States of America. The Stars and Stripes. Old Glory. Whatever you call it, you know the flag I'm talking about. Well, quite frankly, I am far more offended by this flag than the rebel one(albeit, still not very offended, but moreso than by the rebel flag).
Most of you are probably confused right now, so allow me to elaborate. As far as the Confederate flag goes, it's supposedly offensive because it was flown over slavery from 1861 to 1865 and later used by the KKK. In the meantime, allow me to tally up the monumental evils done, specifically to minorities, under the American flag:
-Enslaving black people from 1776 to 1863
-Committing genocide against innumerable tribes of American natives in the name of the white man's westward expansion
-Related to the above, forcing countless peaceful American natives to leave their home and that of their ancestors on the Trail of Tears
-Internment of people of Japanese descent from the West coast
And those are just off the top of my head, yet nobody seems to be offended by this flag. As far as I'm concerned, let people flag whatever flags they want. It's freedom of speech. Thoughts?
EDIT: I would also like to clarify that I'm not really offended by either flag, it just makes more sense to me that the American flag could be offensive.
Also, if you have anything I forgot to add to either list, please tell me so I can add it.

that is actually a decent argument for why the heritage of the united states (and Canada and Australia and new world former-colonial states generally) is incredibly racist, but I don't think it quite compares to a violent rebellion whose entire reason for being was the preservation of black enslavement, or the battle flag of the same which was made prominent through its adoption by terrorists. but, you know 'free speech' or whatever
