shotguns/hand cannons

I took a really long break from this game because i was getting frustrate with where the crucible was headed. I was hoping it would be better now that I've returned, but it's worse than ever. The Crucible is completely dominated by hand cannons and shotgun and it blows. Simple solution, greater damage and/or accuracy drop off with range. I'm much more worried about the hand cannons, I can live with the shotguns. Those who are going to disagree with this are those who completely suck without a hand cannon and shotgun, which is most of the people left playing. Everyone else, like myself, stopped playing crucible because they were fed up with imbalance. As they say, if you cant't beat em join em. I would but I just don't enjoy using those weapons, as good as they are. If you're reading this and you're one of those Titan's that runs around with the one hit beat down and never puts the shotgun away. Don't reply to this, because you're terrible.

  • 1. As long as PvP and PvE weapon systems are connected, The Crucible will NEVER be balanced...and attempting to balance it will only destroy weapons and their value for PvE play. 2.The only sustainable balance that Bungie can hope to achieve is to balance WEAPON GROUPS with one another. Similar to what Respawn did with Titanfall's weapon system. 3. The root problem in the Crucible is a MAP DESIGN problem. Not a weapon balance problem. The Crucible maps are too small, too flat, and too much alike. Almost all of them push players into combat at close-to-midrange. SO PLAYERS NATURALLY PICK THE WEAPONS THAT ARE MOST EFFECTIVE AT THOSE RANGES. When the game dropped it was (as it should have been ) ARs and FRs. But in response to misguided complaints, Bungie yanked the teeht out of ARs and FRs. Which created a power-vacuum that got filled by the hand cannons and shotguns. Despite a nominal shotgun nerf. If a FR hs been so badly broken that it has no more range than a shotgun AND has a charge-time on top of it....no one is going to use it. They'll (smartly) just carry a shotgun of their own. 4. Try to fix this by nerfing hand cannons...and all you'll do is shift the meta to pulse rifles...and the narrowing of weapon variety gets even worse. The only way out of this (in the short-term) is to buff ARs and FRs back to their old DAMAGE levels. The only long-term way out o fthis is to design bigger maps with more varied terrain.

  • The guns are fine, its more the maps. Too many close quarters. They need some more with wide open spaces.

    • I agree. There should be no best weapon in a game and it should come down to skill to determine the winner of a firefight.

      • I disagree they're plenty great guns that are not Hand Cannons or shot guns. Examples: messenger (pulse rifle), Nl Shadow 701X (scout), red death (pulse rifle), scholar (scout rifle), VoC (scout rifle)

      • Shotguns aren't really OP, considering the max OHKO range you can possibly get is 7m, you can just kill them with a scout or pulse in the time it takes them to run to you. The real reason that people are using them more often is because of the larger, sniper-friendly maps being too rare to actually be in the rotation, because reasons.

      • I agree that trials has reduced the variety in pvp which is a shame
