At the beginning of Halo 3, why did Master Chief jump from the Forerunner ship to earth instead of staying on board and doing what he does best?

You're quite welcome Danny :)

But that would be under the assumption that they new he was on board.
They did know he was on board. I'm pretty sure its in the Halo:Uprising comics(issue #3). Master Chief is found by a Jackal and shot. He falls many stories before landing in front of a procession of Brutes guarding the prophet. Truth escapes and the Chief is left to fight dozens of Covenant. He kills them all and starts to find a way off the Forerunner Dreadnought.
There we go. Thank you for this. I will have to go back and read those.
Posted by: Personsen Why not? He's a Spartan Super Soilder. He can take it.
Read mine 3 posts above. They knew he was on the ship. He had to escape somehow. [Edited on 01.22.2009 4:39 PM PST]

Johnson asked him why he jumped.

Why not? He's a Spartan Super Soilder. He can take it.

Because he had to get off Truth's ship somehow, and doing so when it landed wouldn't have been the greatest idea. Probably because he was jumping out over semi-friendly territory, rather than right in the heart of the Covenant landing zone.
Posted by: UR 45 or 50 FrEE Because Bungie wanted him to...
I know that's the easy answer. It makes a more dramatic entrance. But they had to have reasoning behind it.

Because Bungie wanted him to...
Posted by: NS NEWCOMER where did it say he jumped out? i thought he fell off
I guess I assumed he did, but you have a point. I guess he could have simply fallen off.

b/c he is an adrenaline junkie and that's how he gets his thrills

It made him look cool.
-
he wanted off that ride
-
I imagine we'll find out in Uprising 4, if it ever gets released. It's already over a year late....
-
for the simple and awesome reason; he just could
-
Because he would be insanely outnumbered. Even the Chief has limits.
Posted by: maddawgIAJI becuase of the flood and the brutes even a spartan can get overwhelmed
No flood was on the forrunner ship
Posted by: MLG Cheehwawa I'm betting it had to do something with him being a POW while aboard (the Dreadnaught didn't come to Earth for a couple weeks even though ithe Dreadnaught's travel speed between Earth and Delta Halo is only a few hours)
That is a very good point. It would be awesome to have those missions filled in as possible DLC or something of that nature to fill in the gap between H2 and H3
Posted by: dannycantspell
Posted by: Byronic hero Because he doesn't want to take on a Keyship that is filled to the brim with Covenant soldiers with absolutely NO backup and without Cortana to help him bypass security systems and navigate?
It seems the overwhelming consensus is that it was a tactical decision. It is just a little detail that has been bugging me. I wonder how the story may have varied had he stayed on board.
Covenant would have found him, track their own ship.
