A skilled players thoughts about thorn.
Okay here it goes. Yes this is a rant/complaint about thorn. Your getting the input on a guy who is on ps4 who has been playing pvp since beta. Currently top 25 In the tracker on ps4. Here's the deal. Thorn. It's getting old, it really is. Going into a ToO match is a joke because literally every fireteam you face are all using thorn. This is a call out on good players. Really guys? For all you top 1,000 players using it. Your a joke. Thorn is a crutch weapon. The average Joes should be the only ones using it against skilled players like us. Skilled players shouldn't roll on crutchs because everyone else is using it period. I've never liked thorn and I never will. HAWKMOON. Anyway. Getting back to thorn. It needs to be nerfed already , it does.. A guy put together a based stat on teams who went flawless with Handcannons. 70% used thorn 22 % used last word, and only 8% used hawkmoon. Really destiny community? We're better then that. We are. Letting one gun rule them all is a joke. I suggest a very good way to smooth thorn out. I know alot of you thorn users are like "but tlw and hawkmoon 2 shot! Don't nerf thorn poison, it will be weak!" Here's a solid solution. Don't nerf the damage, don't nerf the poison. Keep it a 2 shot gun so it keeps up with TLW and Hawkmoon. Nerf the stability or the range. Make it a actual challenging gun to use. Instead of the typical 2 heads shots and run away tactic. Bungie get off your lazy arses and take notice to this already. You nerfed auto rifles because they were the most used weapons in the game for a certain period. Look at thorn. The past 3 weeks trails has been Thorns of Osiris. Fix it.
Before any of you tell me to get gud or call me a blink shotgun noob. Yes I do. I abuse my shotgun. Why? Because I have a better chance blink shotgunnin thorn users close/medium range then I do with hawkmoon. Thorns RoT and the poison overwhelm it sometimes. Don't get me wrong I outgun 80% of thorn users but that's usually when it's a 50 meter + gun fight. I just shouldn't burn out after I outgun thorn users.
Okay here comes the thorn defenders! Let the hate flow.

Okay I see alot of feelings hurt and people crying cause I made the post and they say I'm whining. I don't speak for myself I speak for alot of the community aswell. Don't think this is just another guy complaining about a weapon he died to. I rarely die to it. I'm speaking out for all the players aswell who have a hard time defending themselves against thorners.

For alot or you guys who can't read aswell. This isn't a cry about 1v1 thorn users. It's about their not being any diversity in the community anymore. So much toxic aswell from you top players in destiny. It's sad

And no this is not a ego Booster. I'm not trying to build up my legacy or polish my sweaty forehead. This was just a post letting the community know there are highly skilled players out there who don't use thorn and do know that it is ridiculous. I salute all you non thorn users. Keep it up!

I agree that thorn should stay a two shot or else it will become like auto rifles (useless). If it becomes a three shot there will be no point in using it other that to stop health regeneration which is minor and useless in a gunfight were the enemy doesn't run away. Also if it's a three shot pulse rifles will be more useful due to some of thems ability to two burst. And of corse the other exotic hand cannons and even legendarily with the right roll will two shot. So I think your idea of making it a hard gun to use is the perfect solution. But here's the thing. I use my thorn because it's the most effective gun in the game. In game modes were winning is what matters Im going to use whatever the best gun is. I'm nothing to put myself at a disadvantage. And after the thorn nerf I'm going to use what ever the best gun for the map and mode is. However I refuse to use Thorn in game modes like control or clash. And ever since I got my last word and red death I find that they are much more effective guns in a lot of situations (even in some ToO maps). I know I used my last word on thief den. However that doesn't change the fact that I hate people like you. All stuck up, thinking their above everyone else. You don't need to add "A skilled players thoughts." No one cares how good you are. Your skill level has nothing to do with the fact thorn should be nerfed. Good for you. You have no life and play destiny all day. I bet everyone would be as good as you if everyone played that much. Another thing a hate about you is you think two wrongs make a right. Guess what, it doesn't. Blink shotguning is just as bad as thorn and even more annoying in regular crucible. And the fact is you don't just use on on thorn players. You use it on everyone. There now way you have killed only thorn players with a shotgun that many times.

I suck ass at pvp and all too often I see 9-0 osiris winners bullying a skirmish match with level 22 and 26 players - all or most using thorn. I was on a team where I was lv 26 (using my son's gt), a lv 22, and a lv 25 against 3 lv 34s, all with their osiris titles and armor, and 2 using thorn and 1 TLW. Seriously? I get some players may need this weapon in ToO, but against low to mid level 20s players with crap weapons. Just sad. You for being a top tier player saying this is impressive.

What I you just like the gun, Thorn was my first exotic. I have had it since before the buff and I have more kills with it than any other gun. I <3 Thorn.

Very true and what's refreshing about this post is you offer some actual good solutions! Increasing recoil to timurs' levels would be a good start. Honestly, thorn is all you see in trials and you're pretty much forced in using it to compete

Simple Solution: Make the burn / poison probability of happening < 50%, not 100%. I'd say 25% or 33%.

I see a lot of Thorns in IB, only played trials week 2 of HoW, but honestly not so bothered by it despite regarding it as a crutch weapon. I'll sometimes use TLW to point out to my friends how much better I do with it compared to Fulcrum/MIDA/Bad Juju.

If you get tagged with Thorn but you end up killing the user, the ticks should stop. They shouldn't continue after they're dead. I hate outgunning Thorn users and giving them a postmortem medal. :P

1 ReplyHand Cannon stability sucks already. I used to use the red hand 9 over thorn any day, as I could do better with it than thorn. If anything, hand cannon stability should be rebuffed so that people will use non-exotic hand cannons to more success, but maybe to balance this thorn's fire rate could be slowed down.

Only complaint I have with your argument is that you claim you don't use thorn because it's a crutch weapon and your better than that right? Yet, you use blink shotty to counter thorn lol is that not a crutch? I'm not saying your not skilled because your top 25% but don't complain about thorn if you use blink shotty. I actually prefer last word but in trials you can't compete unless you are really good with it, which I'm not that great. Only thing they need to do is reduce the range on the thorn. It's like a sniper. Buff auto rifles again to make every weapon class balanced. You should be able to use suros to balance the thorn but you cant. Poison is what makes thorn unique. Another thing is you actually have to earn your thorn by competing a bounty. Other guns you get a random drop...should they be equal?

2 RepliesBack when ARs were king the pingping of suros rang like church bells in the crucible. If thorn gets a nerf either the nerf won't out way the benefits of thorn or the nerf does what it was intended to do and force people to use the next gun that makes sense. Then we will call for that gun to be nerfed. It is kind of a never ending cycle.

1 ReplyI normally run Hawkmoon and using thorn is just so easy. Half the kills aren't even from bullets it's the DoT and it's almost always 2 shot HS for me.

1 Replyi can agree with you on this man. its getting old. i went back and tried thorn out after playing trials with Tlw and it's just boring killing people. i actually miss suros and other auto rifles. destiny had so much potential, and this is what is results to? the way this 10 year plan shit is going, is going downhill. And what's even more annoying is that bungie knows auto rifles are shit now. lets see next dlc if they can bring the vanilla feel back.

1 ReplyThing is you can't really blame people for using it, my main is pulse rifles but I do use the gun as well and others too. A lot of top players will use that gun because they follow the meta, in the Beta and early destiny, Auto rifles where the meta. Then when people started finding out about suros, that was the gun to use. Now cut long story short, thorn is. I'm not saying it doesn't need a tweak, but you can't really blame people for using it because it it the best gun at the moment. We need to blame bungie for as usual taking the -blam!-ing time to patch it. They no it needs a nerf but still nothing has been done
