I have the nerigal savant on my warlock :)
I got it from an engram when dark below came out. I think I got the legendary engram from a daily story mission.

100% agree, I believe the legendary engrams from the daily story can give vanilla destiny gear. I think it might only be the story missions on mars however. When I ran the gardens spire mission on its highest difficulty with my friend with both got legendary engrams. I got a helm while my friend got a special weapon. He got final boss while I got nerigal savant. This was after TDB came out. My friend got a legendary engram when doing the buried city mission. He got a primary weapon engram which turned into a grim citizen 3. Im not sure of it still works now but it only seems to work with these missions as the others gave dark below gear. Still worth trying however.

I think after HoW dropped all engrams go towards HoW gear, but it's worth a shot.

Btw these engrams were rewarded at the reward screen of the daily.
