Question for People Who have Gone Flawless
When you are playing normal crucible, why do you still insist on using the same Thorn/ Last Word + Shotgun load out?
Apparently you guys are the "best of the best" so to speak, so why do you still rely on your overpowered weapons while facing off against scrubs in normal Crucible.
If you truly were good enough to go flawless in the most challenging PvP Playlist in the game, how come you can't succeed with weapons other than Thorn/TLW/ Shotgun?
Maybe it's cuz you are only good because of those weapons......
Edit: Yeah. Lot of replies. Can't get to them all.
Edit: Haha! Just made some flawless nerd quit a Skirmish match by using an uncommon pulse rifle and an uncommon sniper from the Gunsmith.

I don't use Thorn and TLW those guns suck, Hawkmoon ftw, oh and I always use shotgun's and sniper's.

When my boys and I play ToO, I use Fang, one uses Hawkmoon, and one uses thorn. They use snipers and I use Found Verdict. We went flawless three times in a week, myself with all 3 classes. I beat thorns and TLWs more than they beat me..

1 ReplyI use Messenger, Queenbreaker's Bow, and Tomorrow's Answer. I only pull out my tryhard load out if you really make me mad (i.e. using Felwinter's Lie as your primary, sitting in a corner all game, or just simply stomping on me.)

I have gone flawless 2 times. In ToO i use TLW and the matador 64 simply because everyone else is using OP things aswell and winning is most important. In regular crucibal however i enjoy using any random legendary primary wepon that takes skill to use and is alot more fun than Thorn or TLW. As of now my favorite set up is Messenger(adept) Lord of wolves and any heavy wepon. Not all flawless people continue to use op wepons. (Also i cant bring myself to use thorn its just to op)

You need to continue practicing and getting a better feel for the guns, at least that's why I do it

I've gone flawless, but I am no where near a 'top end player'. My K/D for crucible is prob around the 0.85-1.0. I also use thorn and a shotgun, as my main load out, why? Cos I like both of them. Hand cannons rock. And that being said, a lot of people are still able to kill me faster with 'worse' weapons. Thorn and shotguns are not the best guns for crucible, it really does depend on your play style and what you like to use. That being said, in an attempt to have a bit of fun with it all, My friends and I set up challenges for each other for crucible, tonight we chose one gun (we used NLB, then uni remote, then swapped to bad juju followed by hard light), it was a personal competition between us, and we set our own rules for it, no melee, no other weapons, and no supers. You could only get a kill with those weapons during the match. Now that was a challenge. And if we keep doing it then who knows, I might find a set up that I like more and then stick to that instead. I hear red death is an excellent choice, and really pisses off thorn players cos it stops the DOT. Might have to use that as my main crucible gun next ;)

No, I don't. I personally hate using Thorn simply because I don't like it as a weapon, same usually goea for The Last Word, too. I usually use Bad Juju, MIDA, Suros, Vex Mythoclast, and Universal Remote competitively, exotic-wise. Legendary-wise I use Ill Will, Jewel of Osiris, Fatebringer, Vision of Confluence, etc. Special-wise I almost always use a Sniper but some maps (Anomaly mostly) and if I'm having an off-round I'll use a shotgun though.

I'm pretty awful, I went flawless with a vex/voc primary setup (my performance is better with voc than vex strangely) and I almost never switch to my secondary.

4 RepliesThere are two different mindsets when it comes to these kinds of things. 1) I use one set of gear exclusively. It is completely optimized to me and my playstyle, so if I only use this, I will become very, very good with it and I won't have to worry about learning anything new and ruining the good habits I have developed for this gear. OR 2) I switch my gear around and challenge myself. If I become skilled enough, I can do very, very well regardless of whatever handicap, relatively speaking, I put on myself. Through hardship I become stronger. Neither mindset is wrong. However, the second is undeniably more difficult as it requires fluidity and adaptability while the other requires you to hone only a handful of specific skills to single, ultra fine edge. But which one is truly superior in the long run? The second. Given enough time you can push ALL weapons to their limits. This does require an excessive amount of time and practice, however. The people you are talking about are, obviously, the first ones. They decide that only becoming proficient in a single thing is more valuable than the time it would take to become proficient in multiple or ALL things. And again, this is just another solution to the problem, it isn't wrong and you shouldn't hold it against them.

I don't use exotic hand cannons.Personally I think they can't be beat if you play their disadvantages.Whenever some one is running a thorn or similar exotic hand cannon I just snipe them or throw a grenade then one burst them.I use red death and MIDA,and my secondary is felwinters or any sniper

I just changed with the times. I used to use suros, vision of confluence, oversoul, and now I use thorn. I want to go back to auto rifles though. But until then thorn for days.
