I'm want some vanilla gear too. They should drop from the easier strikes right?

I believe so, but do it on the tiger playlist. That was you have the highest possible chance of getting a legendary engrams from the reward screen. Only legendaries from that screen have a chance of dropping vanilla sets, to my knowledge.
