I Want To Compare Destiny to Borderlands Real Quick
So, I've noticed that something that lacks in these forums is comparison with other games. Everyone is complaining about how players who get digital and collectors edition will have a better benefit than day one players...well of course they are gonna have a better benefit. Eventually, as time goes by, all this content will lower and lower in value. Maybe one day Destiny will be a games with gold for free. But that's not what I'm here to talk about.
Borderlands 2 was $60 when it came out
It's Season Pass was $50 I think. It's a bit far back, so if you could correct me if I'm wrong that would be nice.
That's $110 bucks
Destiny came out $60
Season pass was $35
Total: $95
Now you're probably thinking that destiny is better because of the price, but the borderlands season pass covered I think four large dlcs with a load of new content. Now I'm not saying destiny doesn't have a lot of content, but borderlands has a lot more than destiny. Is that because it's just better than destiny? No.
Destiny is built around replay ability
That's why there's weekly resets and things
Borderlands, while can be replay able, does not have a continuation of weekly resets.
Now borderlands the pre sequel was also $60
And I also think the season pass was $50 I'm probably wrong again
But even with both vanilla games it's $120
Now destiny's taken King is $40
The digital edition is $60
Borderlands the handsome collection is also $60z however it includes both games and ALL their dlc. That's three years of content right there. That's one hell of a deal.
Destiny is just doing what borderlands did. The thing is, no one's complaining about the borderlands bundle pack.
Alright. If you read this entire topic and for agree with it at all, I want you to give me a valid point why what I'm showing is wrong.
I can see two points already
1.)It's for next gen
2.)it has tons more content
1.)In my Xbox perspective, I can just re download it when backwards compatibility comes out
2.) remember destiny is built around replayability. It's good to have a lot of content, but too much with the way destiny works can be overwhelming, even more now since old stuff has become useful again with the new ascension upgrading system

2 RepliesYou're right. Destiny is doing what borderlands did. But they're doing it way way way way way way worse. Borderlands season pass gave you four dlcs while destiny gave you two. And the content in those dlcs isn't even comparable in worth (do you feel like you got $35-$40 worth of content in two expansions of destiny? Do you think borderlands got their worth?) that being said, they aren't doing the same thing. Bungie wants to charge you double the price for half the content.

About your replayability comment, this is what ive been saying for ages! Id rather pay $20 for little content, thats replayable, then spend $20 for a lot of content, that once finished, has no interest in doing it again.

The spawns on borderlands where annoying , especially when doing quests you leave an area for fives minutes and then come back to do something else and the area is filled with enemies you just killed

I like both series. They're both fun and examples of games that you can play with friends and have a grand time

1 ReplyHandsome collection means literally nothing to 90% of the die hard blands fans. If the handsome collection offered new content like the master chief collection then I could see the hype. But it's just a 1080p 60fps upgrade. Which IMO isn't worth dropping 60$ for if I already own both games with their dlc. It's only a good deal for people who haven't played or have very little of that content.

The missing comparison here is gameplay. As much as I love Borderlands for its chaotic fun, it just plays like shit. Everything feels clunky and after a while the different guns just kinda seem a bit dry along with the skill trees. Someone's lee (or you?) mentioned that it's fun for the first go around and that's about it. Destiny might have less content wise but the content and gameplay is much better imo.

3 RepliesBorderlands bores me to no end. I dunno, it's just too monotonous. Funnily enough I can actually handle destiny's monotony. Maybe it's because destiny's shooting isn't shit. I never found the gunplay in any borderlands satisfying. Just a match of numbers.

1 ReplyYou're not comparing you're being biased in you're comparison, it's easy to see that you favor destiny instead of borderlands, ya bungie lacked in content in destiny but they didn't in halo. Borderlands was admitted to be an introduction to the world, gearbox came in guns blazing(literally) with the second game, with the DLC bungie has introduced they are slowly improving but the community is slowly losing hope on them.

What I mean is Destiny without all the DLC is a shallow mess and BL has well over 10x the content in terms of guns, skills, and locations. Even with all of destiny's DLC they don't even touch BL main game. So when BL releases DLC people see it as added value to an already meaty game instead of destiny fans who are starving for new content due to the previous content having little to no meat. Hope that answers your question.
