NOT because they don’t work on consoles…
NOT because nobody wants them on consoles…
It's because console gamers can't rationally comprehend MMO pricing. We've been trained to think that $59.99 is acceptable for a “game” but, more than $20 is too much for “digital add on” content. However, when the “digital add on” content contains more than the average downloadable content and it's offered for $39.99? Our brains misfire and can’t handle the fact that its called “DLC” or “Expansion” for $39.99. if Bungie had made destiny like Call of Duty or Halo and released Destiny 2 this September for $59.99, no one would be complaining, Why? because its all part the mold that were used to. Sure you can split hairs about recycling content but, consider this. Activision also publishes Call of Duty, a game which is released once a year for $59.99 alongside DLC priced anywhere from $.99 to $49. During the year lifespan of a Call of Duty game you pay the same if not more than you would if you just upgraded to The Taken King. Not to mention that many people have been arguing that CoD is stale and just recycling content each year.
Facts by the numbers.
Call of Duty advanced Warfare is:
$59.99 (MSRP) and the Season Pass is $49.99 (MSRP)
Compared to Destiny Which is:
$59.99 (MSRP) and the Season Pass is $34.99.
Compared to other similar games within the console gaming space, destiny is not an expensive game. Consider that Destiny is a persistent world like most MMO’s and yet, unlike most MMO’s it does not require a monthly subscription. Also consider that everything you do in Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is lost in Black Ops 3. Its a different developer and a different game, so you have to start over. Where as with Destiny, you are rewarded for your loyalty and you can bring your spoils to the next “game.”
So what gives, am I defending a cold blank corporation that doesn't care about me or my defense for them? No, I have my issues with destiny, many issues in fact. I post here all the time about them. Here are a few of my greatest hits:
“Wtf why can Pison’s Arc blast go across the whole map?”
“Why am I suddenly running out of weapon parts after 600 hours of gameplay?”
“Thorn should critically injure, not kill”
“Why can’t my shader change the color of my exotic? wtf?
I even have issues with The Taken King announcements. I’m not thrilled by the idea of the new patrol being on Phobos or Oryx’s ship. I was really hoping for a new area on Earth. I had hoped we would get a larger explorable area like Borderlands or Skyrim (obviously not as big, but you get the idea). You know, so that we can actually “explore…” Not just a loop with off shoot hallways…
I agree with the community that Luke definitely fudged the monkey in his interview but, he made that right and the pricing model isn’t as messed up as everyone thinks it is. The problem isn’t bungie, it’s the casual console fanbase that can’t comprehend anything other than …

*edit* amended comment about the taken king having the same amount of content as vanilla destiny.
*edit* added datto video because of relevance to the topic.

2 RepliesNo. Datto is simply protecting his cash flow and nothing more. If more people quit caring about this game the less views he gets. So if anything his view and other people who make money off this game say this isnt a bad thing then how is their view not skewed? Also the dude is in bungies pocket he gos to all recent showings of new content so of course you would protect that. He talks about 20 dollar add ons to games that actually give your monies worth of content in the first place and then sale 20 add ons. Comparing anything to cod is not a good justification of anything! Also doesnt even mention the price difference between uk and us. You know why he doesnt? Cause he cant justify that cause its a shitty thing to do. But the bigger thing here is if you let bungie sell this shit for 20 this time whats gonna stop them from doing it again and again?

Did you use the link or find the video on your own because I posted the link before.

You forgot "why can psion blasts go through my bubble?"

7 RepliesThe game hasnt left my disk drive since i got it. Im down to pay whatever first of all because 1) bungie owes me absolutely nothing 2) i willingly paid to play the game, and i enjoy it 3) the taken king comes out in months i can save a dollar a day and buy it 4) bungie has bills to pay and employees with families to feed 5) this is how video games work 6) are exotic class items really that pertinent to you buying the dlc? 7) everyone complains but no one offers alternatives 8) if you cant afford it, dont buy it.

2 RepliesWhat about final fantasy online?

3 RepliesEdited by JHarv: 6/25/2015 8:07:12 PMDestiny is not an MMO. There's nothing massive about 9 people in the Reef, 3-4 people in the world on a patrol. Every competitive activity being a 3 person premade fireteam. An entire planet can be traversed in about 3 minutes on a sparrow. And Elder Scrolls Online is working just fine. Try again. Destiny is just an FPS with a slightly shared world, and one that you cannot even explore. It's blocked off by invisible walls and has preset paths that everyone spawns into and travels through every time they spawn in. Each planet is more of a "level" than it is an open world. A level that you're instanced into like a mission in Borderlands.

1 ReplyI have to say you are right but wrong at the same time destiny is not a "mmo" its a cluster duck. And price is not the problem for me its the amount per price just look at a mmo like world of Warcraft now that's a price mountain but they have content to spare .
-
But this isn't a Massively Multiplayer Online game. Not even close. The closest thing you get to it in this game is when you have a full Patrol map and you're all in one area. I think it was even stated in an interview or something that Destiny isn't a MMO.

$140 (plus another $40-$80 for the expansions after TTK) is approaching monthly fee territory. If they had charge $60 for the base game and charged a $10 monthly fee instead of charging individually for the DLC, we would have paid virtually the same amount by now.

-
Not to mention the conspiracy theorist who believe all the content is locked on the disc lol. Obviously they aren't familiar with how MMOs and even MOBAs do dlc. Lol.

You know, I get what you are saying... And that's actually a great point... Bungie and Activision could of made "Destiny 2" And it would of completely negated all our hard work in ranking up and beating the random loot system... But no they are making another "season pass/expansion pass" and allowing us to keep everything we found. While also trying to fix the flaws they had no idea were in the game (examples of cheeses in raids, weapons been overpowered compared to other weapons) But I agree with this... Bungie and Activision could of totally made a Destiny 2 and made us all toss out our previous loot and gear for new loot and gear... Yes they are having new loot and gear in this new "the Taken King" but were still able to keep everything we have successfully gotten before right... I do not mind what Bungie and Activision are doing... We could of easily been brought into buying a new game... But they chose to make another add on/dlc. These kinds of posts really show who the kids are and who the adults are... Also whom the broke cheap skate adults also... But this post is very accurate and is actually professionally correct...

4 RepliesYeah I don't think it's the pricing that's the issue here, it's the value. Wow expansions basically double the amount of things to do and the player base expects that. Bungie hasn't proven the value yet since the last 2 dlcs were lacking in all aspects. So I can see why people aren't happy to spend more when they feel like they've already been swindled
-
2 RepliesIf you compare it to cod it 59.99 plus 49.99 for one whole year of content (4 dlcs) destiny was 59.99 plus 34.99-39.99 for 2 dlcs and now you have to spend another 39.99 minimum to continue the story. If you look at it like this cod was way more worth it. Tdb and how added almost nothing to keep this game going Crota was fun for a bit but he sucks Poe sucks and has shit rewards too is fun besides all the lag and cheaters. Bungie is killing this game those "dlcs" had no content at all and how Is so boring I barely turn the game on anymore it's just a money pit. Plus every single gun/armor we worked for is useless as soon as ttk drops so I wasted 100 bucks already and now need to spend more to literally start all over again leaving all my hours/guns/armor useless ya I'm good.
-
Remember we paid $60 for the game, then $40 for season pass, now another $40 for new season pass while the new comers just pay $60 for taken king and get the 2 dlc added bonus. I knew activision was going to mess this sh!t up smh.

15 RepliesYou do realize destiny isn't an mmo right

This.

Yes yes yes yes... You are 100% right because you applied logic without using fanboy logic. I would back you up in a fight against the vex any day and time. Also I'm going to give you a link to a video that supports your idea and bump! http://youtu.be/MkIVjENYPlw

4 RepliesEdited by DrugsKillTime: 6/25/2015 5:59:22 PMWhy is everyone on these forums mathematicians? "what do the numbers mean, mason?"
-
Agreed. But like Gump says- "Butthurt is as Butthurt does." Your rationale thought and critical thinking will be lost on at least 50% of the people on here.
-
Well said. And you're mostly right. Destiny is an mmo, ignore what the idiots say. But for an mmo Destiny is severely lacking in content. Look at Guild Wars 2. It was $50 originally and then had years of free content. Only pay for cosmetic items.

Bravo. Well said

5 RepliesThis isn't an MMO. Elder Scrolls Online is an MMO

Waaaah your using logic

Heavensward. That is all.
