Of the three Elder Exotics, this one, i feel is the most rewarding. You get a burst-fire shotgun that absolutely shreds enemies in both PvE and PvP, and it's ON FIRE. I mean, come on, who doesn't love fire?
To start off, don't let the paper stats fool you at all. Although the stability and range appear abysmal, this shotgun is actually incredibly accurate, and has slightly more range than a Felwinter/Matador with Rangefinder. I've actually found myself out-shotgunning these two shotguns in Crucible quite a few times. The weapon appears to have a natural Shot Package and Rodeo perk, because the shot group is still relatively tight, and the recoil is deceptively manageable. This weapon is a classic example of never judging a book by its cover, as judging this weapon by its paper stats will earn you a swift and powerful kick in the ass.
The exotic perk, Devil's Touch, is actually quite useful, without even having to be a must on the weapon to make it exotic. The recovery speed is actually quite noticeable, and I've had many randoms tell me that they absolutely love the extra recovery boost that my Wolves gives during raids, simply because it makes them feel immortal because their health regenerates so much faster. However, the one drawback i have about this weapon is that the exotic perk simply isn't being put to use all too much because you practically have to be nut-to-butt with the person using LoW in order to get the buff. Of course, this doesn't stop players from just running up next to me to use me as a temporary meat shield while they leech my recovery boost for a quick second.
Still, the perk as-is feels a tad bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, having a weapon that feels like the Red Death and Invective had a flaming love child is already more than enough of a reason for me to spend my exotic slot on this weapon; but i feel like the exotic perk would be much better off if the range on Devil's Touch was at least doubled -that way you dont have people running across Vault of Glass to give you a hug, then tell you "I just wanted my health back. "
What truly makes this weapon shine, however, is the MONSTROUS POWER. This shotgun is, hands down, the most powerful shotgun in the game. A single burst has almost twice the power of a single shot from Matador and Felwinter. Even Universal Remote can't quite dish out the same level of firepower. The high rate of fire also serves to increase this weapon's overall DPS. The damage outout also gives this weapon a very high sragger probability. With this weapon, it's even possible to solo kill a Gorgon. So far, ive only done so on Normal, but Hard Mode i managed to get it down to roughly a Quarter, so i feel that Hard Mode is certainly possible.
Overall, Lord of Wolves is an exotic truly worthy of its status. In comparison to the other two Elder Exotics, i feel that this one is the most well-rounded. While the Queenbreaker's Bow may be the leading Elder Exotic for PvP, Lord of Wolves certainly is a close second, being able to decimate Arc Blades and Radiant Warlocks in 1-2 bursts. However, Lord certainly trumps the others in PvE, due to its power over Dreg's Promise and the fact that no sane person would seriously believe that Queenbreaker's Bow is an ideal choice for PvE content. While the Exotic perk may need a little more TLC, the combination of a shotgun and a pulse rifle is already exotic enough to make this weapon worthy of its title. And once you witness this weapon's power for yourself, you'll find yourself seeking out bosses and tier-2 enemies on missions, simply for the sake of blasting their faces off and saying crazy things like "kneel before the Lord!" "EAT WOLVES" or "Im prolly gonna die but i regret nothing!"
