Of the three Elder Exotics, this one, i feel is the most rewarding. You get a burst-fire shotgun that absolutely shreds enemies in both PvE and PvP, and it's ON FIRE. I mean, come on, who doesn't love fire?
To start off, don't let the paper stats fool you at all. Although the stability and range appear abysmal, this shotgun is actually incredibly accurate, and has slightly more range than a Felwinter/Matador with Rangefinder. I've actually found myself out-shotgunning these two shotguns in Crucible quite a few times. The weapon appears to have a natural Shot Package and Rodeo perk, because the shot group is still relatively tight, and the recoil is deceptively manageable. This weapon is a classic example of never judging a book by its cover, as judging this weapon by its paper stats will earn you a swift and powerful kick in the ass.
The exotic perk, Devil's Touch, is actually quite useful, without even having to be a must on the weapon to make it exotic. The recovery speed is actually quite noticeable, and I've had many randoms tell me that they absolutely love the extra recovery boost that my Wolves gives during raids, simply because it makes them feel immortal because their health regenerates so much faster. However, the one drawback i have about this weapon is that the exotic perk simply isn't being put to use all too much because you practically have to be nut-to-butt with the person using LoW in order to get the buff. Of course, this doesn't stop players from just running up next to me to use me as a temporary meat shield while they leech my recovery boost for a quick second.
Still, the perk as-is feels a tad bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, having a weapon that feels like the Red Death and Invective had a flaming love child is already more than enough of a reason for me to spend my exotic slot on this weapon; but i feel like the exotic perk would be much better off if the range on Devil's Touch was at least doubled -that way you dont have people running across Vault of Glass to give you a hug, then tell you "I just wanted my health back. "
What truly makes this weapon shine, however, is the MONSTROUS POWER. This shotgun is, hands down, the most powerful shotgun in the game. A single burst has almost twice the power of a single shot from Matador and Felwinter. Even Universal Remote can't quite dish out the same level of firepower. The high rate of fire also serves to increase this weapon's overall DPS. The damage outout also gives this weapon a very high sragger probability. With this weapon, it's even possible to solo kill a Gorgon. So far, ive only done so on Normal, but Hard Mode i managed to get it down to roughly a Quarter, so i feel that Hard Mode is certainly possible.
Overall, Lord of Wolves is an exotic truly worthy of its status. In comparison to the other two Elder Exotics, i feel that this one is the most well-rounded. While the Queenbreaker's Bow may be the leading Elder Exotic for PvP, Lord of Wolves certainly is a close second, being able to decimate Arc Blades and Radiant Warlocks in 1-2 bursts. However, Lord certainly trumps the others in PvE, due to its power over Dreg's Promise and the fact that no sane person would seriously believe that Queenbreaker's Bow is an ideal choice for PvE content. While the Exotic perk may need a little more TLC, the combination of a shotgun and a pulse rifle is already exotic enough to make this weapon worthy of its title. And once you witness this weapon's power for yourself, you'll find yourself seeking out bosses and tier-2 enemies on missions, simply for the sake of blasting their faces off and saying crazy things like "kneel before the Lord!" "EAT WOLVES" or "Im prolly gonna die but i regret nothing!"

1 ReplyYou forgot to mention the weapon's downright insane ammo capacity. Pair it with some armor that lets you hold more shotgun ammo, and Lord of Wolves becomes a primary.
-
14 RepliesI totally agree it's beast in many scenarios in PVE besides for when I need to Gally a boss... And in PvP it is a monster. I've dropped my found verdict and exotic primary so that I can have Lord of Wolves as my shotty. I'm trying to figure out what good legendary primary to use now. I've always had a decent K/D and now this is helping to bring it up a little.

4 RepliesLoW for PvE. Bow for PvP.

1 ReplyThe Original perk on this gun would have been much cooler and they should not have messed with it :(

Edited by iZnth: 6/24/2015 10:49:15 PMGreat for PvE. Meh for PvP.

5 Replies100% agreed, glad I chose it as my first elder exotic
what does TLC mean?
3 RepliesThat sounds like it would be the one I'd choose. Can the cipher drop from 34 PoE or is it just from 35? thanks.

I got it yesterday.

3 Replies"Felwinter/Matador with Rangefinder" statement proves op is an idiot with no useful knowledge delete this post

Bumping for Invective and Red Death love child. 10/10 would use as catchphrase

4 RepliesAs a defender Saint Titan this weapon was the one weapon I would drop Gjallarhorn and Truth to use. With my helmet and bubble this gun becomes the center of a beacon of death. Armor of light means whatever comes into my bubble has to deal with great offense and defense. Blessing means people can come in and out to get shields and healed. Nothing like blinding a captain or minotaur chasing your teammates and introducing them to the woodchipper of wolves. Great weapon. The healing is just ridiculous lol

Steps for LoW: 1. Linear Compensator 2. Perfect Balance 3. Profit

I enjoy the hell out out mine and it was my first choice!

I have gotten a total of 4 ciphers. So 3/4 I got one of each exotic weapon they offer and I'm currently finishing my 4th cipher and I will pick lord of wolves again. Love it.

weapons that require more skill are more rewarding such as the queenbreaker bow.

Nice review :) I hate the thing given I don't have one and I get slaughtered by them in Crucible, lol. You should do more of these; it's a nice shift to find productive reviews here lately.

2 RepliesJust picked this up last night, waiting for stupid Variks to give me cypher (so -blam!-ing pointless).

3 RepliesHaven't tried it in PvP yet. Is it really that badass?

1 ReplyIts a cool looking gun for sure and its neat that it shoots burst fire. but its not that great IMO.i can melt enemies quicker with a invective and it regens ammo. But there are also purple shotties that are almost comparable like found verdict at 365 that dont use a exotic slot. Its hard to use other exotics when you have the gally. All this is my opinion based on pve.

14 RepliesFelwinter is almost always a one shot kill so?????
