I see a lot of people talking about the money and saying things like " You're a scrub because you can't afford $80." Or "I am buying it because Destiny is the best game and $80 for this much content is worth it to me, save up some money if you can't afford it and stop whining". To me it is not a financial issue. I have bought the game and the previous DLC four times. I have bought a copy of each for my wife and myself for both the PS4 and the Xbox One so I have already put $400 in this game and have absolutely no regrets. This is an amazing game.
I would have no trouble sinking another $320 into the game (4xCE DLC) if it were not for that interview. What I took away from the interview was that Bungie talked about the pricing and decided that they have people addicted to the game and there is a portion of their player base that is distracted by shiny objects and they can take advantage of this by putting everything in the CE and saying "hey if you want these exotic class items and weapons and emotes you need to repurchase the game" because not only does this maximize profits it also artificially inflates how many copies of the game they sold.
Bungie could have just as easily made the following pricing
TTK DLC - $40 (DLC ONLY)
TTK Year One Edition - $60 (DLC only with CE goodies)
TTK GOTY Edition - $60 (Destiny, TDB, HOW and TTK only)
TTK CE - $80 ( the same as the year one but with the base game and prior DLC)
How hard is it to maximize profits and not come across as disrespectful of the legacy players?
So my problem is not with money, it is when a developer looks at its legacy players and uses our love of the game and our desire for exotics to take advantage of us financially. This isn't new in the world of business. P.T. Barnum said "there is a sucker born every minute"
