Edited by Kankunation: 6/23/2015 9:40:18 PMYou are looking at it as if it's an action game. Dragon age combat is all about strategy. Placing your compainions in the right spots, telling them what abilities to use and when to use them, moving them out of damage zones and healing them when needed, etc. The combat is an amazing example of strategic combat. If you are just holding the trigger, not moving around and not controlling all 4 characters at once, you are doing it wrong.

I don't like it either. Boring boring combat. And why no heal spell??
-
Inquisition is set to where you have to plan out your encounters more. Whereas in the previous games you could carry with you everything you need and spam healing spells so that potions aren't needed. With inquisition they decided to make you plan ahead. Personally I like that to an extent, though I do miss how in the previous games you could actually program a list of tactics for the companions to follow given certain situations are met. It required a little bit less switching in certain fights (though switching was still largely required). If you don't like it, that just means that it's not your thing. However in is certainly not bad, in fact the combat is actually pretty good If you you like strategic-combat systems.

If it's not bad because I don't like it then it's not good because you like it
-
It's not even about if I like it, personally I don't think it's as good as DA2 was. But it's mechanics work really well and are actually. Quite well thought out. I never said it was good because I liked it, I said it was good for what it was. My opinion as well as yours is moot. Something can work well without you liking it. I hate CoD but I'll admit that it does a good job at keeping its fans playing over and over. I dislike not being able to trade in Destiny at times but I understand the benefits it gives by not being there. You don't have to like it to know it's good.

Edited by tmanfrede: 6/23/2015 10:36:38 PMFair enough. I amend what I said. It still makes little sense to not have a healing spell. Every other fantasy trope is present except for a healing spell. I get that they wanted the player not to rely on it but it's a very lazy accomplish that.
-
I agree to an extent. A simple healing spell should have been there though I would understand if it had a decently long recharge time, like once every 10-15 seconds, to go along With the rest of the combat in the game.
-
Well, you simply don't need the healing in Dragon Age Inquisition. Having a spirit healer subclass would just be ridiculous, especially considering the difficulty of the franchise decreased. Take a look at Dragon Age Origins, the -blam!-ing game will make Dark Souls look like a cake walk.
-
I could get with that.
-
It follows a classic RPG-style of combat, it's much more suited for PC gaming.
-
You just hold a button, you don't aim or anything. What's the point? You don't dodge You can't miss with arrows or magic. I guess some people don't like doing anything but I prefer something like dark souls where the fights are interesting.
-
You're playing on lower difficulties if the game isn't a challenge. In harder difficulties, you have to plan the battles, and it especially became more difficult without the healer spec.
-
You can plan all you want but you are still just holding a button when you attack.
-
Sounds like a big ole casual to me.
-
It's combat for people that can't handle a real system like dark souls
-
Lol, you say DA combat is boring and then you say Dark Souls. What do you do in that game? Oh right, blocking and nothing else but blocking.
-
You forgot rolling
-
No, you just block your way through the game.
-
Then I guess you haven't tried using a bow
-
Nope, still blocking.
-
Yup. It's why I stopped playing it
