Pricing Strat for TTK is a joke, and Luke Smith comes off as a completely arrogent asshat in this Eurogamer Interview.
Seriously, how much of a slap in the face is this pricing plan to all the day 1 players who bought your crappy DLC season pass and have been repeatedly screwed? I think the only thing worse than your pricing plan is Luke Smith's dismissive and shitty attitude. The dude is obviously a really bad writer judging by the "cinematic story telling" that is the vanilla game, and he's horrible at doing PR and damage control. Y'all need to lock him in a back room so he stops burning the goodwill your company has spent years building, if not just completely fire him because he's a joke.

I can't believe that they actually thought that it was a good idea to make people buy the same content twice. It always boggles my mind when I think how people who come up with these ideas probably make good money. Like the people in charge of designing American cars in the 80's and 90's.

Well, this interview is strike 2 against me buying any further dlc. This isn't rocket science bungie, don't do something so -blam!-ing stupid. As a day 1 player that's bought everything as a pre order, I will not have new players buying the discounted version and getting items I cannot get without buying everything I own for the second time. I will not.

That is ridiculous. I get that those questions were pretty pointed, and for good reason, but he answered them very unprofessionally. As much as I want the taken king, I'm having second thoughts. I wouldn't exactly consider myself a fanboy, pretty close, but I know that if I'm starting to think that way, than many other people already are. But if you were to break up the features of these different editions, it would seem like they were implementing micro transactions, and how would the community react to that? I donno guys...

Why do we need to purchase content we already have?!? Bungie should just come out with a stand alone version of just the taken king for like 20 - 25 dollars? I myself don't care for the emotes or class items its just the fact that I have to pay for stuff I already own End of Rant

He could've gave the Deej response and said we are always discussing things like this when it comes to Destiny. A generic answer like that says nothing...and doesn't come across as being a smart-ass. I empathize with ppl who have played this game as long as me and want these things. Not everyone had the $80 to blow right now like I do. What else pisses me off is I don't get the physical stuff because I bought the digital. It's the same damn price. I had already put $50 into my Xbox account for TTK so I was stuck buying the digital. They need to lower the price of the digital if we don't get all that extra shit. How hard is to give us a code to mail back to them for them to send us the things that come with the physical? ffs Bungie. How is any of this fair to your dedicated fan base?

This is a problem. Not so much the pricing because AAA studios are going to do what they have to do in order to make money, but the interview is an issue. Not even so much as the interview itself, but the wording Luke chose seemed to make to make a lot of people angry and the pricing situation even worse in the eyes of many. I do not think Bungie should go as far as to firing him. He doesn't deserve to lose his job just because of a slip up he had.

1 ReplyThis man is not one who should be developing the game. I read the interview and he seems condescending and just a truly negative person. He wants money. Not to give to those who enjoy the game. I mean, he says that we'd throw money at the screen for new emoticons. Which we probably will have to with a likely lack of new PvE content. We get x number of strikes and a single raid and 4 new maps and 1 new game mode. If this raid isn't stellar, difficult, fun, and very imperative to the explanation of the "story" of the game, it'll flop. If the strikes aren't fun and creative with new mechanics we've never seen before with new ways to build up to the main chunk of content, the raid, it'll flop. If the story is comparable to that of TBD, it'll flop. If it doesn't bring things that we as players not only wanted but needed, and introduce things we never could've have thought of that improve gameplay immersion and make the player feel like we are the ones truly defending the light, it'll flop. It is a crucial DLC for this game to survive. And if there's people like him on the product, acting as if though the people who have played since day 1 and have been loyal customers since then, are not worth nearly as much in terms of value compared to those who bashed the game and wouldn't buy it until they got a cheap price with more content. The way you act in an interview and go so far as to talk downward upon those who enjoy your game, saying these fans will throw money at a screen for emoticons and that they are paying the appropriate price for the DLC when they truly aren't, shows what kind of person you are. This isn't a person who wants anything to do with his consumers, and instead is after nothing but money and to scam people. This man shouldn't be working for the company if these thoughts are actually his own. In fact, he shouldn't be working for any game company if he has those kind of thoughts. And by his logic that TTK is worth 40 pounds truly shows how little he values the rest of the game. Thinking that the base game, TBD, and HoW are worth a measly 15 pounds for the 55 pound version of the game. And why is it that the euro gamers are paying more than American gamers? It's like you want to hurt your community. He's a detriment to the company. Hoping to never see him working on another project involving bungie or destiny.

3 RepliesI read the interview and thought Mr. Smith had some interesting points. People who really care about the emotes are going to pay extra for them anyways. I will just be picking up the digital expansion, since it's the most cost effective route for me. All things considered, one year of Destiny has cost less than a year of any other premium subscription based games that I can think of. Before you jump off the deep end and say something about how you can't compare Destiny to those types of games, look at how many hours you have sank into Destiny. Go ahead, I'll wait while you check. It's probably hundreds to thousands of hours for the die hard players. I'm definitely in for The Taken King. If it's good, Bungie will have my attention for quite some time. If it's mediocre, like many predict, then I'll probably steer away from this franchise.

i don't give a -blam!- about the emotes or lame exotics like de class items, im going for the solo 40 bucks. don't care about ps exclusives too im on xbox. but damn this guy is annoying... so arrogant.... i love destiny and all but this made me sad... destiny is a game developed to be addictive, for real like they have psychologists and psychiatries telling in how to get us hoooked, and i get how this affects me.... the reward system, the special snowflake feeling this is all that make us coming back, and speeding more money, and for some of us will be hard to get out of this trap.... even though i knew all this i never felt played or tricked like now... like im just a -blam!-ing pile of money... like a crackhead..... so luke -blam!- you mate, -blam!- you.......
