They're fine in crucible but fusions are not as useful as the other special weapon types for any PvE event.
I recently tested a 365 Praetorian Foil in a level 28 Prison. It took three shots to kill a red health Cabal Centurion. For comparison, the same enemy dies from one shotgun headshot or two sniper headshots.
Now, I don't expect fusions to be as strong as a shotgun but a 50% damage increase for PvE would at least make them worth carrying.
Edit: I'm glad that this thread keeps getting bumped even a month after posting. As the new incoming patch notes display, the devs seem to be oblivious to fusions' lack of purpose in PvE. The more this topic is bumped and liked the more they'll notice our concern.
As for the example I cited in the second paragraph above, I'll explain why I chose it in case anyone is wondering.
The Foil has the highest impact of any normal fusion, comparable to the old 77 Wizard and the new Aksor's Servant. Foil's solar damage also matched the shield element of a Cabal Centurian, so the first blast did more damage. Attacking a relatively low level enemy also meant it would be easier to kill than a higher level enemy.
But even with this ideal set of conditions a top tier fusion rifle takes way too long to get a kill.

1 ReplyBETTER THEN SHOTGUNS NOW

I think they need a slight buff in pvp too. They still can't compete with a slide/shotgun combo.

1 ReplyYea fusions got hit with the nerf stick so bad because of pocket infinity.(The range/damage/spread) They got hit hard. That and others were beasts in pvp and pve back in the day. I agree it's ridiculous how weak they are compared to shotguns. I noticed awhile ago they can't contend. They can have higher impact and better stats but they are pure shit. I guess they will be getting a buff soon. But the range will be nerfed to that of a shotgun.

1 ReplyThey need a buff for pvp too, they suck even with good perks. thats why people only use shot guns. when they nerfed fusion rifles, they destroyed them.

would be nice if fusion rifles could get criticals. this could definatly help them out.

I haven't found anything higher than the Murmur. Main reason I keep it is because it can switch between Arc and Solar and it's impact is higher than any other (with... and I'll have to check, perhaps exception being the Vex Mythoclast which I find highly effective against all creatures great and small in either PvE or PvP.

5 Repliesi only bump for Queenbreaker's bow

Seriously. If Bungie wants us to use different weapons for different situations, then what situation is a fusion rifle for in PvE? When you see an enemy coming from a mile away and want to tickle them? Who would stand there slowly charging a fusion rifle 4-6 times when a shotty does the job in seconds? I still think FRs are viable in PvP, but they are HORRIBLE in PvE.

They use to be all you would see before the patch
-
Plan-c is actually really good at all pve and I don't think that the fusion rifle isn't bad as everyone says it is.

1 ReplyThey need to do more balanced like they did with shot guns. No big change for PvP and a minor change for the better in PvE. Also, for PvP, do what halo did and talk to MLG players for a better balance. I'm not saying go solely off what they say, but they tend to have a better idea of how weapons should balance out, rather than the average whiner, crying about how their new toy doesn't stack up. Listening to those guys gets you the current situation with torn.

1 ReplyIt is true. Fusion Rifles need to crit also.

1 ReplyHeck yeah!! Fusions should be effective again. Plus reduce the Vex Mythoclast's spread. That gun can be so terribly inaccurate.
