Vault space, a seemingly large storage area to the non-veteran guardians yet an invaluable space for those of us that have played since launch. The real reason for updating vault space isn't simply to collect trophies, it is a necessity to keep up with every new game-type or DLC and those in our past. There are various levels of complexity to Destiny which include PvP, Raids and the new PoE challenge. Most of us visit the the raids (VoG and Crota) and each have weapons and armor specific to that raid, wielding unique perks for each said raid. The same is also true for the umbrella of PvP (Iron Banner gear, Crucible gear, Trials of Osiris gear) and Prison of Elders. Every aspect of Destiny has optimal gear to equip for that specific game type, providing specific advantages that may only be relevant in that situation/game mode.
Add another layer of complexity, we have weapon perks and burns (Solar, void, and arc). This alone can cause you to hoard at least three of each weapon type (if you like to switch up your play style) for whatever scenario you encounter for the burn type.
Primary Weapon Types (4): Auto Rifle, Pulse Rifle, Scout Rifle, Hand Cannon
Special Weapon Types (3 + side arm): Fusion Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle
Heavy Weapon Types ( 2): Rocket Launcher, Machine Gun
Lets do the burn math:
4x3 = 12
3x3 = 9
2x3 = 6
___________
= 27
27, that is the minimum number of weapons to retain for all aspects of burn and weapon types. Add in 'Exotics' and you are adding another 26 weapons.
Armor is another story entirely. Whether you play PvP, Raid or challenge yourself to PoE, there is a valid reason to change gear for different perks for each occasion.
The truth is, if you have been playing since launch you are going to have many more weapons than some coming in after any of the DLCs and those weapons remain viable. Most are unobtainable and provide your character with unique weapons as Bungie comes out with new content. We need more vault space to utilize every aspect of the game. Take in account that many of us have more than one character and you've created a channel to increase the amount of armor and weapons with a potential multiplier of 3. Again, we need more vault space to accommodate the expanding weapons, armor and game modes.

Here's a reason that goes with the Destiny universe too. The vault works by just storing the blueprints for the gun in a digital form of some kind. When you take stuff from the vault it just transmats it from glimmer. So there should be no reason that the vault should have that little storage space. If nothing else you could say the towere increased their hard drive space.

Honestly. There's no argument needed. That shit should happen.
