Bruce Jenner does not have any physically female characteristics. He does not have ovaries. He does not have a vagina, nor was he born with one. He has 1 Y chromosome. Bruce Jenner is a man, 100%, with a mental illness. The current promotion of genital mutilation as a treatment for mental illness is on the same level as the proscription of lobotomization for people with Schizophrenia in the 19th century. Physical mutilation has never been a humane treatment for the mentally ill, and yet psychiatry continues to find new ways to inflict it on the most vulnerable of society. What is being done in the name of 'gender freedom' is insane, inhumane, and repulsive. If Bruce Jenner believed himself to be a dog, would anyone argue he should have his fingers cut off and his pelvis broken so that he would more closely resemble a dog to an observer?

The biggest conflict I see in this issue lies in how people choose to define "gender" and what they consider to be "a person". From my perspective, I grew up without a male figure in my life. I was never taught how to be a man. I was never encouraged to find girls attractive. And I've never put enough weight into other people's choices to have social norms influence how I feel. Yet for as long as I can remember, I've known with absolute certainty that I am male and that women excite me. Not because I have a penis. But because every fiber of my being tells me so from the way I think, to the things I find of interest, to my attitude and how I carry myself.. everything. And if I woke up tomorrow with a vagina.. I'd be incredibly confused, but I'd still know with the same certainty who I am. So then we're left with the question.. What makes us, us? Is it our flesh and genetics? Our sub conscience? Our "soul"? The answer to that changes dramatically depending on who you ask. But the funny thing is... no one ever bothers to ask the people who are actually going through it. The groups of homosexuals or the transgendered community who may actually have a bit on insight into these questions are told what they are instead of asked. We establish truths based on our faith, or our understanding of science, and all but refuse to consider other possibilities. Homosexuality and transgenderism frightens people on all sides of the debate. The religious are frightened because if this is anything other than a choice, it means that their god made a mistake. And we certainly can't have that. People of science are frightened because the concept goes against natural selection and what we consider to be proper evolution. So homosexuals and the transgendered are instantly written off as genetic mutations like cancer that must be corrected. It couldn't possibly be a new path of evolution. Because that may mean that the rest of us "normal" people are on the fading side of our evolutionary path... So how about we all just admit that none of us know exactly what the -blam!- is going on with this right now and stop treating other human beings like freaks shows. Let people have the same right to be happy that you get and let's all stop talking about them.. and instead talk with them. Who knows.. we might actually learn something.

The real question is... What is America going to do about the great debt crisis looming over head? What's that? You people are more interested in whether people should be allowed to mutilate thier own bodies for whatever weird reasons? Caitlyn's got his xy chromosomes, he was born as a male with a male physiology. He is a male. Gender identity really serves no point. It simply groups people who mentally and emotionally show different traits found in a gender identity based on stereotypes. And then encourages them to alter and harm perfectly healthy body parts. That's not good, and that's not healthy.
