Red Death shouldn't be on the list. As for Legendaries though, I reccomend: The Messenger Spare Change.25 with stability perks Hopscotch Pilgrim http://www.destinydb.com/items/135862171-red-death http://www.destinydb.com/items/3478790848-hopscotch-pilgrim http://www.destinydb.com/items/3478790850-spare-change-25 http://www.destinydb.com/items/1768925825-the-messenger As you can see, they have more impact than Red Death, but slightly lower fire rate. The Messenger's Static perks are ridiculous having Perfect balance on an already high stability Pulse rifle just makes the weapon ridiculous. And with modifications, the other two Pulse rifles can be about on par with the Messenger. You are going to need two stability perks with Spare Change.25 Counterbalance and Braced Frame. With Hopscotch Pilgrim, the weapon has higher base stability than The Messenger, but less range. Even with Rangefinder the range really wouldn't be close, so you probably want to run counterbalance with this one as well. Smallbore or Rifled Barrel would be ideal for the weapon, preferebly Smallbore since the weapon already has a high mag size for a pulse rifle at 30. The bonuses of these two legendary pulse rifles against the Messenger is that they can have a perks other than Headseeker, which in itself is a really good perk but it gives you options for others. Overall your best bets are going to be The Messenger followed by Hopscotch Pilgrim. Although Three Little words is on par with The Messenger without the need of extra perks, plus it had the benefit of coming out in DB expansion so you don't have the burden of the perks with negatives. But it is near impossible to get now if you don't already have it. http://www.destinydb.com/items/1011266581-three-little-words

  • I rolled a really good Spare Change for Crucible, Third Eye and Helping Hand. Got Hand Laid Stock in the middle perk tree for increased stability and it wrecks. Can 2 burst people at sniper range. I love it.

  • Thanks for the info What's your take on headseeker ? It sounds like it means a body shot at the start of a burst adds damage to the end of burst if it sweeps to headshot Would max stability and just putting full burst in the head alone do better damage ? Been trying to roll a hopscotch pilgrim and have been looking for stability and reactive reload, tho if headseeker is viable might add some other possibiliies

  • Wow. Good post man. Very helpful. Also, I think I have the three little words sitting in my Vault, is it worth upgrading then or just go for something else? Thanks

  • Depends on what perks are on it. If it has a perfect balance it is just as good as The Messenger, and can be better because it's perks aren't static. If you equip it to your character I can check it out.

  • Yeah, those perks are great. They effectively increase the base stability and range of the weapon by 10%. With those put together it makes it all around better than The Messenger's base stats. Comparing this to The Messenger it does have Headseeker and Perfect Balance but it has about 14% less range than your Three Little Words, for PvP you would be using Flared Magwell to enhance the reload speed or Field Scout to reload less often. with The Messenger you typically would always want to use Perfect Balance which is really what makes the gun good, either option you make you would have more ammo than The Messenger or considerably more reload speed. Your rifle has Field Scout, which is easily THE best perk for PvE you can get as it maximizes ammo capacity in both magazine and reserve, this perk is no longer attainable with the new weapons, this totally trumps The Messenger's extended mag. All in all this is easily comparable to The Messenger even with the perfect balance perk, as you are trading off a bit of Stability for Range. Definitely worth leveling up. Be sure to try it out in PvP first with Rangefinder and Perfect balance, as Pulse rifles are a love it or hate it type of deal. Plus, in the off chance of you being able to affix legendary weapons with an elemental attribute, Field Scout weapons would always remain supreme in PvE.
