First off I'm not trolling. This is a legitimate argument.
Why should there be one month dedicated to only the blacks? There are several other races deserving of their own month. Such as the Native Americans that we committed genocide upon, the Japanese that we more or less threw into jail, mexicans, Irish, etc...
If we are to grow as a society we must remove racism and black history month only stirs the hornets nest. Both parties are equally at fault for keeping racism alive.
Tl;dr) Black history month only creates racism and other races have had it worse
*And white history month is equally stupid

1 ReplyI found this 2005 Morgan Freeman interview. FLASHBACK: Morgan Freeman on Ending Racism: ‘Stop Talking About It’ By Michael W. Chapman | August 22, 2014 | 5:13 PM EDT (CNSNews.com) – Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman, who endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008, said that having a Black History Month was “ridiculous” and that the best way to end racism today is to “stop talking about it.” Freeman, known for his roles in The Shawshank Redemption, Unforgiven, and Million Dollar Baby, made his remarks in a December 2005 interview with Mike Wallace of CBS’ 60 Minutes. In the profile of Freeman, Wallace remarked that the actor/director’s “political views are at times surprising,” and then asked Freeman, “Black History Month, you find?” Freeman said, “Ridiculous.” When Wallace asked, “Why?” Freeman said, “You’re going to relegate my history to a month?” The exchange continued: Wallace: “Oh, come on.” Freeman: What do you do with yours? Which month is white history month? No, Come on, tell me.” Wallace: “Well, I'm Jewish.” Freeman: “Okay. Which month is Jewish history month?” Wallace: “There isn't one.” Freeman: “ Oh. Oh, why not? Do you want one?” Wallace: “No. No.” Freeman: “I don't either. I don't want a Black History Month. Black history is American history.” Wallace: “How are we going to get rid of racism and ….” Freeman: “Stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man, and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You want to say, `Well, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.' You know what I'm saying?” Wallace: “Mm-hmm.” Freeman: “Jewish guy. I have a lot of – some of my best friends are Jewish. Okay?” In a more recent interview, June 3, 2014, Freeman was interviewed on CNN by Don Lemon. They were discussing President Obama’s drive to make income inequality a national issue of debate. When asked by Lemon whether race is a factor in wealth distribution in the United States, Freman said, “Today? No. You and I. We’re proof.” “Why would race have anything to do with it?” said Freeman. “Put your mind to what you want to do and go for that. It’s kind of like religion to me. It’s a good excuse for not getting there.” As for racism in society in general, Freeman said, “If you talk about it, it exists. It’s not like it exists and we refuse to talk about it, Making it a bigger issue than it needs to be is the problem here.”
Black history month only creates racism and other races have had it worse
I just...don't even. You really are trying to quantity who suffered from racism more. The reason black history month exists still is that the socioeconomic change necessary to remove it has not occurred.

Edited by TheCaptainM91: 6/14/2015 3:28:49 AMLet's make all things equal... DEATH FOR EVERY HUMAN REGARDLESS OF SKIN COLOR.
Nonetheless, race and racism is a social construct designed to keep our minds occupied from other issues within our society.
16 RepliesWell if your ancesters were sold and traded like cattle for hundreds of years. Bred and killed. Forced to fight, to work. To live as non humans. You might want a month. Just saying.
-
2 RepliesI always assumed it was bigger than any other potential month for other minorities solely because blacks are the largest minority
-
1 ReplyBut the BHM jordans are always so dope....

What some people don't realize is it's still a form of racism. Of course we should acknowledge African Americans, but in the same way we acknowledge Caucasians, and other races. Putting only one race and celebrating their achievements is still racist.

7 RepliesEdited by cxkxr: 6/13/2015 12:06:44 PMThere's a "white appreciations day", but the liberals will lash out in mobs and call you racist if you celebrate it. Everyone but white people are allowed to celebrate their heritage and race.
-
2 RepliesLet's clear one thing up. Both races are not equally guilty. Black people didn't want any of this. But You're right black history month is dumb and only reminds us of racism. We should get rid of it
-
7 RepliesBlacks had enslaved themselves long before we showed up. The first person to fight in court and make owning slaves legal in the colonies was, in fact, black.

-
Yes let's give a month dedicated for people who threw babies on bayonets. No race deserves a month.

Arkay history month is a joke

2 RepliesFor the same reason as why kwanzaa is propogated in the U.S. It is not even an african holiday. It has no roots in african history. After guys beat up their wives they take em out to dinner and buy em pretty flowers because it makes everything "ok".

5 RepliesEdited by BLiTZ: 6/13/2015 5:00:58 PMHow have other races "had it worse"? To your topic, I'm not sure if Black History Month is all that necessary now. I'm sure it was intended as a good gesture and educational opportunity when Congress made it. Maybe we don't need it anymore. Maybe it could cause more strife than it prevents. Overall it should be a non-issue to anyone with a reasonable level of intelligence.

2 RepliesIf there was white history month it would be rascist...

2 RepliesI actually tend to agree, because I think that separating the non-{race} from the {race} in some way only serves to perpetuate a divisive mindset of "us and them" which might not exist if it's not continually pointed out. It's like the flag issue in South Park where Chef was the only person who saw it as racist probably because he is racist himself.
