Edit - this is an idea as an alternative to nerfing thorn, hawkmoon, last word, high impact long ranged shotguns etc and buffing other guns to bring them up to a similar playability.
I see a lot of posts about suggesting needing this, or buffing that, to make the state of play in the crucible more fair.
But I lay down a different approach. How about we make people that use the more popular powerful guns, work harder!? So someone killing you with a thorn doesn't get his 100 standard points per kill and 50 for assists. Instead they will only get 60 points per kill, but 60 points per assist! This will encourage team work to bring down the enemies, rewarding them even though they are using a beast of a popular weapon! And might even change someone from using a thorn, to using a relic of an auto rifle!
Here's how I thought it could work.
Popularity of guns in crucible is currently being monitored anyway. So the database can be used to reflect score points. Primaries and secondaries can be sorted into the three popular types. (Hand cannons / Auto Rifles / Pulse Rifles / Scout Rifles for primaries) (Shotguns / Sniper Rifles / Fusion Rifles / Side Arms for specials)
The most popular of these types will suffer a -20 points per kill score and +5 per assist.
The second popular gets a -5 points per kill and no modifier to assists.
The least popular weapon type will get a +20 per kill and -5 to assists.
Then the top 5 guns of that weapon type get a modifier too. The 6th to 10th popular weapons don't receive any further modifiers and the least popular (11th onwards) receive a bonus per kill.
1st to 5th popular get a -20 points per kill but a further +5 per assist.
6th to 10th popular get no modifiers.
11th to nth least popular of that category get a +20 points per kill and -5 per assist.
Heavy weapons will get similar treatment, but won't be divided by category / weapon type.
1st to 3rd most popular heavies will get -25 points per kill
4th to 6th will get -15 per kill
7th to 14th get no modifier
15th+ get +15 per kill.
Some examples to clarify the process. The position in brackets (x/y) will be just an example of this weapons popularity (not factual), both in type and weapon. (1/3 means it's the 1st most popular weapon type in this category, but 3rd most popular gun of this type)
Handcannon/Thorn (1/1) will get -20 per kill for its weapon type, and -20 for being the most popular gun of that type. So it will get -40 points per kill before bonuses, but will get +10 per assist.
Handcannon/A Little Voice (1/12) will get -20 per kill for it's weapon type, but +20 per kill because it's an unpopular Handcannon. So it won't get a modifier and you'll still get 100 per kill and 50 per assist.
Auto Rifle/Suros Regime (3/1) will get no modifier for it's weapon type as it's not the least favourite (4 Primary types), but -20 per kill due to it being the most popular of that type! The assists however would be at +5 points per assist.
Pulse Rifle/The Messenger (adept) (2/5) will get -5 per kill for its weapon type and -20 per kill due to it's popularity as well as +5 points per assist. So it will get -25 per kill and +5 per assist in points.
Sniper Rifle/The Supremacy (2/18) will get -5 points per kill due to it's weapon type's popularity, but a +20 per kill and -5 per assist due to how unpopular the weapon is in that type.
Hopefully you get the idea by now. Let me know what you guys think on the idea, and any suggestions to alterations you would make!?

2 RepliesSo you want Bungie to force people to use guns they don't want or like when they already get flak about forcing people to play their way? You can't be serious.
