Destiny and Dynamic Difficulty

I provide these ideas because of my love of the game and my frustration with what I consider its shortcomings. Feel free to add your ideas in the hopes we as a community can help Bungie make their product as good as it can be. I would compare this game to Borderlands which imo allowed 95% of content to be enjoyed in a group of up to 4. The difficulty increased based on the number of party members and then dropped immediately if a member left. This system was ingenious. Destiny could implement this system in strikes and missions keeping both fresh by challenging players. As it stands now most strikes are far too easy for a max level group. Yes one nightfall per week and one heroic per week exist, but I'd rather play in a normal strike format and face a true challenge. The reason being less pressure, less failure penalty and more fun. I believe they called it dynamic difficulty. Destiny attempts to do this with their choice of level but most difficulties are far far too easy allowing content to become boring. Also, Borderlands kept its story missions as the crux to which random players would be matchmade, side missions could be done at will Destiny makes all missions story missions which means only daily heroics have any value in matchmaking. Considering those missions are completed in about 20 minutes that doesn't allow for enough time to create a base in which matchmaking can occur in any meaningful way. Destiny could implement multiple playthroughs of the entire game, with dynamic difficulty, granting heroic level rewards each mission based on the difficulty and number of players (drop rate would increase with no loot table change per added player). Number of playthroughs would be tracked with each cycle increasing again in challenge and having loot tables upgraded. Raids could be reduced in challenge to 3 man, with an altered loot table and incorporated into the overall story cycle. This way there would be no content missed by anyone and raiders would still do 6 mans due to the increased value of a 6 man loot table. Patrols could be more interesting with the addition of free form sparrow racing, dueling, places to relax (like a Guardian base) in which people could communicate with each other. Pvp zones could also be added to certain planets allowing for random pvp encounters instead of the same pvp stages constantly. Or even a pvp planet toggle.

  • Great ideas. Only issue I see is that Bungie would have to do some work. History would indicate that they prefer to leave that to third party websites.

Your problem is thinking Bungie wanted this game to be fun. You must be new. Looking forwards to seeing the lightbulb over your head turn on. Learning is fun :)
