All right, people. Don't askw why, but i just beat ONI over again. On hard. I killed Griffin, too.
Anyways, I beat the game, kicked Muro's burly ASS into the ground on my second try, and sat back, watched the cool anime ending (somewhat anti-climactic, but hey, it's the middle part that counts, right? Besides, it blew it wide open for a sequel!! *wick, WINK*) and caught the following:
1) Voice-overs: Konoko: Amanda Winn Lee. Otakus, this is the SAME WOMAN who does Rei ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion. I found all her other works HERE as well.
2) Some Special Thanks went out to MASAMUNE SHIROW. Can anyone tell me the details behind this?
Before you reach Muro @ the end of the last level, you overload the generators to the atmospheric processors at the last console in the game, with a description of what Konoko does to them. at the end, she types in "blam! love, your little sister." <---I thought that was cute the first time around, and now that i've become a more involved Bungie fan, i recognize the significance of the first word....
More Thanks went out to: Halo Team.
I realize, from the Halo history page, that Halo was in production during Oni's. Special thanks also went to Jason Jones. Cool shiznit.
Can anyone verify my timeline? How did Shirow help, exactly (undoubtedly with the Anime, i know, but...how did he help?)
and does anyone know that, after you escape Shinatama's Xiox destruct bullcrap, the second-before-last big power conduit that you must cross - the one with guys on either side that shoot @ you - the lone beefy TCTF guy with the plasma rifle to the right is invincible? I shot him with 6 mercury bow rounds. He's always gotten up. I cheated after and shot him over...and over...and over again.
AND that the Shapeshifter cheap is level-specific?
Just putting this stuff out there. Sorry if i'm late. Last time i played Oni was in like 8th grade, 4 years ago.

I'm sure many games do that to save memory (immediately GTA3 comes to mind, which would explain why you always see the same cars repeatedly coming up in a short amount of time), but Oni is "more obvious" b/c the regular user - once he is able to cheat- can get a "glimsp" at what's under the hood. I don't mod xbox's nor do I have Halo PC (only halo mac) so i wouldn't directly be associated with any intimate knowlodge there. I will say that Bungie has almost always started work on one game by taking the previous game's engine and building onto it. Then eventually they get sick of it and completely overhaul it. In short, I'm sure all bungie games do that (I do however have much experience modding myth with fear and loathing, as well as some time with Anvil. or was it forge?).
Posted by: Jager The shapeshifter cheat utlizes all the models that are on the level. So if the level didn't have muro, you can't use him! I'm going on a limb here, but its a memory thing. The level designers would specify which models/characters where on the map so when the level loaded, it didn't load more characteres than it needed to load.
Halo does the same thing, doesn't it?

Lots of what he said ^^^ IIRC, After myth:TFL was made, Jason started work on Halo, while many of the other guys at chicago start work on myth 2. And somewhere in there, Oni production at Bungie West started. Myth 2 gets made, and Halo recieves some more hands. On Oni's box, iirc, credit is given to Ghost in a Shell as the main inspiration. And good call on the Rei link: didn'tn know that! (still like cowboy bebop better though O:-) ) The shapeshifter cheat utlizes all the models that are on the level. 1. I know. ;) 2. Shirow is probably best known for Ghost in the Shell. If you can't see the resemblence to GITS in Oni, you're blind. Oni was HUGELY inspired by Ghost in the Shell, so the game might not've happened had it not been for the work of Shirow. 3. Halo was being developed in Chicago while Oni was being developed by Bungie West, in San Jose. As I recall, the Bungie West team were the last to move to Redmond, as they stayed put in California until Oni was finished.

ONi was developed by a separate division of Bungie.
