My issue with Thorn, in Bungie's own words
This is taken from the Bungie Weekly Update, 17th of October, 2014 (The one about the Auto rifle nerfs and various other tweaks)
"According to the notes we published, our work may have resulted in either a slight increase or decrease in the deadliness of your go-to weapon. It’s a safe bet that you’re wondering why. We understand that curiosity.
Let’s talk about why we do these things. I’ve talked to a lot of our developers about the update that went live. The main theme that emerged from every conversation can be summarized like this:

28 RepliesThorn Deals 85 to the head With DOT deals 120 to the head With final round it deals 148 to the head A sniper body shot does about 151 damage (praedyths) tell me that shit isn't over powered. Timurs lash which has almost double thorns impact only deals 95 to the head as opposed to thorns 120 (dot) Timurs lash final round deals 126 thorns final round deals 148. Let that sink in. Copy and paste so people understand why it's over powered.

We just need another wepon useage update from Bungie like they did at the Year end when they showed us how many Ar's were being used across the board (I was one of them and loved it) So this way we could at least see how many of us are using HC's over PR's over Shotty's

All i know is if bungie ever does nerf it, it'll get the same dämn treatment AR's got... And i actually like it, and prefer it NOT become useless...

11 RepliesMajority of players used autos because they were familiar and easier to use. Just cause most people use them doesn't mean it's op. But when a single weapon, not a weapon class, is constantly used and can constantly 2 shot opponents deserves a nerf. I want to see that graph again bungie, I'm willing to bet anything that thorn is on that list. Hell it's probably first

4 RepliesBungie nerfed Auto rifles to shit because people loved to use them. But no they won't touch a mother -blam!-ing hand cannon! Sorry this stuff grinds my gears. BTW I use scout rifles, have when I started and I will always use them.

9 RepliesWhat exactly do you think is going to happen when they eventually nerf Thorn? People will just switch to red death/vex/TLW/Hawk. The weapons in destiny will never be balanced. They would have to go through and make all the TTK values identical. Then what would be the point in acquiring new weapons? There is usually a best weapon in loot based games. There is nearly always a best gun in FPS games. BF3 had the m16a3, cod has had guns that outperform nearly all others in each title etc. The only way to have weapon balance would be to have all characters forced into the same load out when they start a crucible match. I guess my point is there will always be a best gun. Which gun it is might change over time as nerfs and buffs happen but you are just going to have to accept the fact that some guns are better than others, stop crying and adjust/take advantage of the situation.

Too many thorns because its to easy to use.... if you say its not op then your kidding yourself. I'm not for nerf this or that but i think it would bring balance to PvP if you had to get a crit hit for the damage over time to kick in that way its still a great option but not the only option most ppl go with because of the easy kills with spamming the trigger....now any one can spam the thorn and get kills.... this would separate the skill gap of using this gun and I don't think you would run into whole teams using it.as much as you do now. Like TLW it's op but takes more skill to be good with it.

3 RepliesFeck it, let's just take ALL exotics out of PvP altogether... In fact take all legendaries and all blues out too... Give us a choice of white weapons at start of each match ( But no shotguns ).... Oh and no Alts/supers, no punching or melees. Just one white primary, special and heavy. Equality. !!! Er, they'll have to cut out the lag too... Job done !! :-)

1 ReplySick and Tired of the Nerf Thorn whining. I use it because I earned the damn thing. I also use Red Death, TLW, Mida and Invective. I ALSO use legendary scout rifles, shotguns, fusion rifles, machine guns and rocket launchers in PvP. I've been on the receiving end of Thorn. I like the poison effect with the first shot. Forces me to immediately duck behind cover and ride out the poison. People whine about cross mapping? If you can't duck away before the second or third shot you simply suck. I've been using Red Death way more often lately. And TLW. Thorn is NOT at the top of the food chain. Whine about why really matters, lag switches, crapy servers and the loot system. Stop making Bungie emasculate every damn weapon in the game!

Love the thorn. Rediscovered it after repeatedly getting shat on in ib. I thought that it didnt fit my play style and there was that whole stigma associated with it so i didnt use it. Hole mother of variks! Easymode : ON

8 RepliesIf they wanted it to be like halo they would simply ban all exotics from the crucible. They don't want balance, you are supposed to get an advantage from grinding for the best guns. If everyone could compete on the same level from the start what would the point of the grind for gear be?
