The True Cold Hard Facts on Guns.

A loud scream and shouting, bang, a gun goes off. As you turn you see a man stumbling in your direction, blood pouring from his chest. He has been struck by a bullet while walking down the street. We must ban all guns; they hurt people! What logic is there in this line of thought? Those who support the banning of firearms do not stop to ask, why was the person shot? why was the firearm discharged? Is the individual carrying the firearm a legal owner? These are all questions that need answering before we can make a conclusion. Instead they jump straight into a state of pure logical fallacy in an attempt to correct a wrong, that may have been correct. The firearm in question had no control over its user. Yet that is the very argument gun control advocates make, the guns are the problem. So because of a minority, the majority should lose their rights. At the very beginning of our country’s independence, the framers of our constitution laid out a collection of rights that we the people are entitled to from birth. One of those rights is the 2nd Amendment, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, Shall not be infringed (“Charters of Freedom”). It is clearly stated that we the people are entitled to keep and bear arms, and that right shall never be taken away. Throughout the past century, this right has been under attack. The first attack on our rights was in 1938, when the National Firearms Act of 1934 was passed ( “Gun Control Laws”) This act required a record of all firearms sales be kept, and a tax added to the purchase and manufacturing of shotguns and machine guns (“History of Gun Control legislation”). Throughout the next seventy seven years, our rights to own firearms would be attacked again and again. In 2008, the Supreme Court struck down a Washington DC handgun ban, labeling it unconstitutional, levying a major win for gun right (“History of Gun Control Legislation”). Then in 2012 President Barrack Obama made a pledge to seek a ban on specific firearms and ammunition's in response to the Newtown shooting in Connecticut (“History of Gun Control Legislation”). Although these attacks persist to this very day, patriots everywhere still stand against the proposed tyranny of gun control with a voice louder than ever. The reason for gun rights under the second Amendment of our constitution is made very clear. We as citizens were given this right to defend against the tyranny our founders fought to free us from. Although the attacks on gun rights persisted for many years, by 1994 democrats began to rethink their stance on gun control after they lost congress (“NRA nation”). By 2006 Democrats had all but abandoned any legislation on gun control. (“NRA nation”). The reality of it all is that the higher the legal ownership of firearms in an area is the lower crime rates have been found to be (“Disarming Realities”). The facts are that since 1993 gun related deaths have dropped 69%, while gun ownership has continued to increase (“Disarming Realities”) The numbers do not lie. Americans own more than 300 million firearms, yet there are only 9,000 homicides on average a year (“Gun Facts, figures, and the Law”). If we do the math that is .00004% of firearms being used in a crime. Yet it would be argued that guns must be controlled. Then to top things off, of these 9,000 annual homicides only 576 are a result of “long rifles” which range from hunting rifles to military grade equipment. To put things into perspective, that is .00000192% of all firearms in the United States (“Gun Facts, Figures, and the Law”). Yet these long rifles variants are the only type of firearm the media seems to talk about, yet you can see, represent the lowest common denominator in all gun violence. There are those who would contradict these statements. They would argue that one death by firearm is too many. They would say that having access to any firearms with the capability of firing in excess of 30 rounds is insanity. They would point out the flawed process involved in buying a firearm, and how the mentally ill and criminals can purchase firearms so easily They would have you think also that, an individual being armed for defense would likely do more harm than good when faced with circumstances. They would cite incidents such as the Tucson shooting as proof of their emotional beliefs on gun control. It is because the shooter had access to a high capacity magazine they would say (“Gun Control Reform”). They however would be wrong in each and everyone of these assertions. Now is the time to educate the masses. The freedoms the founders fought and died for are under attack. The patriots who are out there must share these facts, and engage those who are interested. The future of our constitutional freedoms depend on the formation of a strong grass roots movement willing to stand for our rights. Written by: Angry0lbgrampa.
