Anybody else hate Gwent?

It's not a very interesting game to me at all. Not to mention without adequate cards the game is all based on pure luck and impossible at times. I'm just skipping that part of the game entirely, which saddens me cause I want more experience... Lol

I love it, actually. I had the same "this is nothing but luck and better cards" attitude at first, but now I challenge every merchant and win because I found the strategic side of it and use that to my advantage. Most strategy is trying to get your opponent to waste rounds, use their big cards, or pass early, without wasting your own cards. Commander horns help too.

  • Anybody else think playing against people, who play monsters, are pretty overpowered. I played gwent at the party, you go to with triss, and the last round consisted of the opponent just calling up monster cards that would spawn even more monster cards from his deck. Half a dozen times I lost by a difference of over one hundred strength in the last round. I got close on the first game, but that ended in a draw, which didn't help me much.

    • I love gwent, its not pure luck or impossible. Just beat silly innkeepers and other merchants until you get some decent cards then go against the quest guys to get even better cards. Once you get the hang of it it becomes enjoyable imo.

I don't personally care to spend all my time in a video game playing cards but I think it is interesting.

      • Can't get enough of it. Especially now I have a decent deck. I keep getting distracted from my quests to go and play Gwent - I was in the casino for so long. So close to finishing my monster deck.

      • I only played it once at the start and I just didn't understand the instructions much. Snappy below has posted a detailed explanation - i read it and it made my brain hurt, so I still don't understand it! Lol! For anyone interested, here's what snappy wrote.......
Reminds me of the card games in KoTOR (pazaak) and caravan in New Vegas. Got three rows Melee/close quarters combat with sword icon Archers with a bow icon Artillery with a catapult/trebuchet icon Top left corner shows how strong the cards are ranging 1-15 Basically you want to have a higher score than your opponent by 1 or more. Unless you're using a nilfgardian deck in which case you win draws. Now there's a bunch of special cards 1. Weather cards Blizzard reduces the melee cards each to a power level of 1 So if you had 4 cards ranging from 4+4+5+6 They would be 1+1+1+1 equal to 4 overall for that row. Wind applies to archer / middle row Rain applies to artillery last row Then there's a clear weather card that takes out all weather cards on the field. There are decoy cards that allow you to substitute a card on your field with a decoy to allow you to play it again, these come in handy for Spy/medic cards. Another special card is scorch, which destroys the strongest card in the field, so if both you and your enemy had an 8 catapult, it would destroy both of them. Next are hero cards, which are invulnerable to decoy, weather cards, scorch cards. Now some cards you play have special icons on them A heart means it's a medic and will allow you to draw a card from the discard pile. So if enemy plays scorch destroys your high level card, you can play a medic card and bring it back. An .. Eyeglass? Icon means it's a spy You give the card to the enemy and increase their level, but in turn you draw 2 extra cards for your hand. Good combo would be to play a blizzard weather card and then play a melee spy. Have 3 people icons on it, means its a searcher card. Will go through your entire deck to find similar cards and play them Finally there's a hand icon, which means if you have copies of the card and play them together same round they will first x2 their power score So for example 4+4 would turn to 8+8 then 12+12+12. Forgot another special card, the commanders horn which doubles the power level of the entire row. Each deck has a special power Nilfgardian is winning draws, northern realms is drawing a card when you win a round, elf one let's you choose who goes first, monsters leaves a random card in play. Then there's leader cards which all explain what ability they have
• The game is easy if you can think strategically. It's short and as far as mini games go its one of the best I've seen. You must be smoking some weird shit

                  • I hated losing the first 20 games in a row. Then I got a little better and am liking it. It moves pretty quickly and adds a layer of quests to the game I hear. It actually has strategy and for a mini game, it is not to bad.
