Wouldn't work in terms of lore. Guardians don't hold any ties to past nations, only the safety of the City and the Traveler matters. Irl, would turn things more divisive among players.

In Destiny, All Nations are gone even the damn Mericans. We no longer bond by the Nation we swear loyalty to, what we are now is Humanity as a whole.

Battlefield has done this with patches that are unlocked for everyone's use at the start of the game so I don't see why we can't have them either. There would be logic in this too because cloaks and marks are made from scraps basically. It wouldn't be unusual to see a guardian with part of a U.S. or a Russian flag on their class item. Shows where they've been, in game and in real life.

Forgive me if I crush your hopes, but there is reason to believe that, the longer the human race can live, the more blurred our cultural distinctions will be. Language will be the first hit, and it actually already has, as we have far fewer languages now than we did a hundred years ago. There was also a piece from Nat Geo on what humans may eventually look like. The example people were multi-ethnicity mixed people. It also stands to reason that, based on this, more people are living in countries that were not where their families originated from, and that does happen to be the case. This anthropology lesson of a comment is basically saying that, with the gifts of life and knowledge from the traveler, we have likely lived so long (see: Thousands of years) that it has become optimal for us to unite as one cultural entity, all (maybe 99%) speaking only one language. One planet, not several countries. The only racial distinction that is noted now is that between Exo, Human, and Awoken, but again, all were derived from humans somehow, either directly via mutation/evolution, or indirectly via invention and rebirth in Light. Perhaps at one time they were three nations, but even that is gone/irrelevant, because, again, cultural solidarity is optimal at this stage. Idealistic solidarity, however, is not. Competing ideas will always exist, that's human nature, and that is one of the things has caused us to seek intellectual and philosophical self-improvement over time. That brings us to the factions. 3* core groups with competing ideals: Our world is lost, Our world is salvation, Our world is war. Idealistic distinction is the logical outcome for a society of that age and intellect, which is why Guardians wear the colors of these factions, and not those of a nation they might have a few ancestors from. To suggest to a Guardian of this time that he should wear a Bond with the nation of Nigeria's flag on it, it is entirely possible that he or she would say "What is Nigeria?" or "Why wear a small district's dated colors?" or "I'm sure I'd be digging in the Archives for hours to find what it looked like..." or "Why would I want to do that?" Then you might say, what about Old Russia! That was a nation! Well, what is to say that title isn't just something for us to know where we are as players, rather than what the Guardians call it themselves? Then again, if Old Russia is a name just for players to more easily interact with the game world, then class items for our own personal cultures and countries of ethnic origin are not as far-fetched as I might have believed at the beginning of this comment — it kinda has been a long time since seeing the top...
