My fireteam and i earlier today DESTROYED a team in the trails and went flawless. Two of them then messaged me and called us a bunch of try hards. I've been hearing that term since black ops 1 and i don't understand it because i believe its a term only scrubs and noobs use. Try hards? Duh ima try my best to make sure i end up winning. Thats the whole point of competitive multiplayer. Can someone please clarify (definition) what a "try hard" is and justify why it's bad to be one. Thanks.
Edit: so the most common response i'm getting is a "try-hard" is someone who tries way harder than is needed to win. Or someone who takes gaming to serious. Well It's called "competitive multiplayer", which means it will be competitive which also means people are literally competing to win.
I don't see whats wrong with trying your hardest to win and not lose. Even tho you get no prizes. But based off of most of the answers i've received, most of you are basically saying you should never try hard to win, which makes no sense lol. And if you want to win and try your best, its a bad thing.
I think real gamers understand there is no such thing as a "try-hard" or trying to hard when it comes to video games, especially when it comes to competitive multiplayer. In a way, competitive multiplayer is like a sport and to an extent it should be taken serious.
If you don't then competitive multiplayer just isn't for you. You might as well call michael jordan or muhammad ali a try hard which makes no sense in my opinion.
People that really call others try-hards always seem to be little whinny kids that just got their ass whooped but hey thats just my opinion. When it comes to video games there is no such thing as a try-hard. It's basically an expression sore losers use to make the person who won feel less accomplished about their victory. But thanks for all your answers!

its what the losers say. If your a tryhard they are in turn the opposite a, suckhard
-
You are the only sensible player that can just relax and enjoy a game
-
I think its someone who works way too hard at something thats really not worth all that effort. Its basically an accusation that you probably play the game 24/7, thus trying way too hard to be good. But if you dont play 24/7, you should definitley take it as a compliment, your skills are too good to acomplish for a regular guy with responsibilities! Nice!
-
People who don't suck. So the fat whiny uncompetitive losers have an excuse.
-
Anybody with 2 warlocks. Or 1 under leveled warlock.
-
You know, when you're getting off of school or work and you fire up your video games, you're a little tired. Some guy comes up fifty times faster than you feel like moving, and kills you. You're like " wow, he was trying WAY too hard!".

The kid who shoved you down in gym class to get the ball.

Try hards are like the team I played last week: 3 bladedancers with thorn, thorn, vex mytho As a titan I just cry and hope I can get 9 wins. As it were, I did and the lighthouse made me feel that much better

The word "Tryhard" just like "Noob" and "Scrub" is a diragcetory term given by casual players to someone who has beaten them or has used an overpowered weapon to gain an advantage. "Tryhard" is a word used by "noobs" to convey displeasure with fellow players. Please refer to this web address for any further questions. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=try-hard

I try really hard 100% of the time. That's literally the dumbest insult I've heard. If your not trying hard.... why bother?
-
Its a term that sore losers use when they think the other team apparently tried to hard. As if you are at fault for giving it 110% and winning at all costs, they expect you to play half-assed so they can stand a chance I guess.
-
if they win, you are a scrub, and if they lose you are a try hard. Some people are really into labels...
-
If anything just ignore them there just noobs who lose all the time it's like when ppl call me a heart scoper or something like that what am I suppose to do quick scope with my patients and time aren't snipers made for camping and faraway kills so just ignor them
-
Im a try-hard and im not ashamed of it lol

Edited by Hippo_Legacy: 5/30/2015 2:08:15 AMIf they're resorting to calling you a "try hard" they're probably children. But basically it's somebody who, as the name suggests, try's too hard at something, generally a menial task which shouldn't/doesn't require much if any effort.
-
Lol I hate that term too
-
It's what fgts call people because they suck at the game.
-
It's sort of like someone who puts winning ahead of having fun, using the best guns because winning is most important. Kinda like the dudes who were total jackasses in middle school basketball because it was all about winning.
-
Someone who tries hard. Its pretty self explanatory. For example I like messing around in crucible with different guns like universal remote but if I need to try hard I'll play seriously and use weapons like red death or thorn
