My fireteam and i earlier today DESTROYED a team in the trails and went flawless. Two of them then messaged me and called us a bunch of try hards. I've been hearing that term since black ops 1 and i don't understand it because i believe its a term only scrubs and noobs use. Try hards? Duh ima try my best to make sure i end up winning. Thats the whole point of competitive multiplayer. Can someone please clarify (definition) what a "try hard" is and justify why it's bad to be one. Thanks.
Edit: so the most common response i'm getting is a "try-hard" is someone who tries way harder than is needed to win. Or someone who takes gaming to serious. Well It's called "competitive multiplayer", which means it will be competitive which also means people are literally competing to win.
I don't see whats wrong with trying your hardest to win and not lose. Even tho you get no prizes. But based off of most of the answers i've received, most of you are basically saying you should never try hard to win, which makes no sense lol. And if you want to win and try your best, its a bad thing.
I think real gamers understand there is no such thing as a "try-hard" or trying to hard when it comes to video games, especially when it comes to competitive multiplayer. In a way, competitive multiplayer is like a sport and to an extent it should be taken serious.
If you don't then competitive multiplayer just isn't for you. You might as well call michael jordan or muhammad ali a try hard which makes no sense in my opinion.
People that really call others try-hards always seem to be little whinny kids that just got their ass whooped but hey thats just my opinion. When it comes to video games there is no such thing as a try-hard. It's basically an expression sore losers use to make the person who won feel less accomplished about their victory. But thanks for all your answers!

Someone who will do anything possible to win (ie: final round, Cheating, Lag Switching) and then make fun of others for being lower on the leader board.
-
Flak Pro SOH Pro Tactical Mask Pro Famas Double Pythons Oh wait..
-
Someone who tries hard
-
If you know what TRY is and you know what HARD is then add them together trying really hard ...
-
never really use that phrase but people using their best weapons for normal crucible bugs me, don't get me wrong for trials iron banner ect ill break out thorn, spear ect but is their any need for just normal crucible? i basically just use it to mess about with new weapons and level up gear/guns. so i suppose i'd say they try to hard always fretting about their kd so never trying out anything new
-
Last week my team and i got called cheater because we did a bad ass come back from 0-4 to 5-4, best match ever lol
-
U never went up against someone wearing their tryhard pants? The kids that constantly will rush the same person in the same spot, die five times to them then t bag when they finally get the kill. The kids running around with a felwinters and thorn buy they still go negative every time. That's a try hard.
-
Just someone trying too hard to win... Basically meaning they're better than you.
-
What scrubs call someone who is better than them
-
They way I've seen it is people who do to much to try and win eventhough it's futile
-
I don't use try hards as an insult but mostly just a term, I respect that they're better at pve than me and have a variety of exotics and legendaries at their disposal. But that's not my play style to have 3 characters maxed out run raids like a madmen
-
Basically they crouch when shooting and fly around the map like idiots
-
If you dont cheat or hack, then anything goes, thorn, tlw, vex, final round, etc.. For me its ok, because winning is winning.
-
Try yards are basically people who try insanely stupidly hard to win. Of course it makes sense but it can't get annoying especially in like call of duty if everyone is sniping but you got that one guy drop shotting with an automatic

TriHard is a twitch emote

Edited by VoodooN88: 5/30/2015 2:56:50 PMFrom old school... A try hard was someone who would use the worst non game intended tactics to win. Spawn camping, shooting way out on the edge of a map knowing the other team can't possibly get to them with out being sniped, ect. Basically someone who finds the flaws is the map to ensure they win because the can't go player to player and win. For the most those would only be the lag switch users. The choice of weapons no matter what they are, are available to the other team as well, so no, choice of weapons does not make someone a try hard.

Someone who tries hard
-
When the player does anything to achieve their objective. Imo using cheap weapons, dirty tactics etc isn't tryhard, I think it depends on the player if they are really a tryhard.
-
Perk up in that seat, crack them knuckles, equip thorn/shotgun/blink and yell he's glitching if you die or something "Try hard mode" lol
-
I've been checking out people to see if they have the ToO Anubis helmet. And u do. Lucky m8 how is it? Also should I buy the Mothing manacles cause scatter grenades are pretty good.
-
Basically it's a way for the less skilled or casual feel better about themselves when beaten by people that really wanna win.
-
You are a try hard I mean this a s a compliment Finally a good crucible player that is not a jerk to the enemy
-
A try hard is someone who actually tries to accomplish things, yet is made fun of people who lack skill. Calling someone a try hard is a way that people that lack skill can make them feel better about themselves.

Basically She's My Nerd LOL

Akashi from kuroko no basket is what you would call a "try hard". Not playing to have fun, just with no spirit and doing anything to win.
