My fireteam and i earlier today DESTROYED a team in the trails and went flawless. Two of them then messaged me and called us a bunch of try hards. I've been hearing that term since black ops 1 and i don't understand it because i believe its a term only scrubs and noobs use. Try hards? Duh ima try my best to make sure i end up winning. Thats the whole point of competitive multiplayer. Can someone please clarify (definition) what a "try hard" is and justify why it's bad to be one. Thanks.
Edit: so the most common response i'm getting is a "try-hard" is someone who tries way harder than is needed to win. Or someone who takes gaming to serious. Well It's called "competitive multiplayer", which means it will be competitive which also means people are literally competing to win.
I don't see whats wrong with trying your hardest to win and not lose. Even tho you get no prizes. But based off of most of the answers i've received, most of you are basically saying you should never try hard to win, which makes no sense lol. And if you want to win and try your best, its a bad thing.
I think real gamers understand there is no such thing as a "try-hard" or trying to hard when it comes to video games, especially when it comes to competitive multiplayer. In a way, competitive multiplayer is like a sport and to an extent it should be taken serious.
If you don't then competitive multiplayer just isn't for you. You might as well call michael jordan or muhammad ali a try hard which makes no sense in my opinion.
People that really call others try-hards always seem to be little whinny kids that just got their ass whooped but hey thats just my opinion. When it comes to video games there is no such thing as a try-hard. It's basically an expression sore losers use to make the person who won feel less accomplished about their victory. But thanks for all your answers!

Someone who uses 365 Thorn in Trails.
-
Someone who tries hard
-
XB1? I need more try hard friends.
-
Simply put: someone who tries hard.
-
They want to be the best at all costs doing it the hardest way in something that doesn't matter at all. Everything else is a cheese.
-
People who try hard.
-
People who cap Hightower
-
Git rekt, tryhard
-
Is the fact that I match my armor so I can throw lots of tripmines at yall tryhard? :P
-
A try hard is a nerd. Someone who is really good at something that's lame. Like a video game or science. Why don't you get good at stuff like managing portfolios, banging chicks, and doing cocaine you -blam!-ing try hard.

Edited by KitsuneSonow: 5/30/2015 9:55:33 PMMy understanding of a try-hard was someone who does everything that they can to be good at something (including buying other accessories that would supposedly improve their gameplay like $300 headsets) , absolutely sucks at it, but blames everyone else for their poor performances. So from what I read the other player was the real try-hard.

Calling someone a try hard is the excuse someone uses when they lose to them in PvP
-
Calling someone a try hard in a competitive playlist like Trials is just an excuse for being terrible.
-
The focused mentality that one must exert during the trials is the same a a tryhard. It funny because the trials is nothing but tryhards. If you always have this mentality, out side the trial, then I would say your a tryhard. Its not a bad thing, but some came be over the top. And its not always about being op. Im a tryhard when I play my peaceful guardian.

It's an "insult" that squeakers on cod started throwing around. All it means is that they are salty that they lost.
-
"Try hards" is what bad players call good players, I take it as a compliment
-
It means your willing to win by any means. In my opinion if your playing pvp use the best guns out there with the cheapest skills of your subclass. I guarantee you the o posing team will do the same and the'll feel great about it. F morals it pvp its supposed to be competitive not fair thats the reality of it.

Try Hards are people who use cheapest tactics to win. Some people consider Thorn/FR Snipers/BlinkShotguns/InvisSpammers/Turtling - Try Hard methods. Some don't. If you are ready to go flawless in ToO, be ready to be called a Try Hard, because I saw only ONE viable strategy other than described above.

Mr dew 420 blezet doritos 360 nu scope mlg feze=tryhard
its a op weapon user that plays all day
-
Using thorn and final round snipers, but I can't say shit because I get called that also, it is just away for people to feel good about losing (in my opinion)
-
Imo, a tryhard is someone who is not a good pvp player, or just average, who uses annoying/ cheap tactics in an attempt to do well. For example: last round snipers, invisible shotgun flankers, campers
-
Anyone better than you is a try hard or no life
-
Im hearing 'sweaties' a lot more. I think thats the new try hard
-
For a lot of players, worse players are noobs and scrubs, and better players are try hard and no lifes. Try hard is basically a name players give to betters because they think that they try too hard to be good, or some crap like that.
-
The only reason why anyone should be called a tryhard is if they use Final Round Spears
-
Someone who will do anything possible to win (ie: final round, Cheating, Lag Switching) and then make fun of others for being lower on the leader board.
