Did the nightfall with two randoms I met from destinylfg. I didn't have a mic but they did. Despite having mics only two words were spoken the entire time, "Oh sh*t," after one died while fighting Taniks. No wipes, beat it our first attempt, and worked well as a team. This was a team of randoms manually matched via a third party website. If I can play with randoms I met outside of the game, why can't we get matchmaking or an in-game lfg system?
