All steps to the exotic bounty "The Elder Cipher"
For those interested here's the deal:
You obtain the bounty as a random drop after killing Skolas on lvl 35 or the level 34 boss of the week.
Steps of the bounty are:
1. Take the elder cipher to Variks and choose a weapon to work towards
Your choice of Lord of Wolves shotgun, Queenbreakers Bow (a fusion/sniper combo), and the Dregs Promise (a sidearm)
2. Obtain a queens cipher by opening the main chest in the queens Crystal barrows on any PoE challenge mode (lvl 32-35)
3. Return the queens cipher to variks
4. Wait for Variks to summon you (takes 48 hours from turning in queens cipher) edit: a guy with the queenbreakers now says he waited 24 hours so conflicting sources. I did inspect him and he had it also has a video of using it.
5. Kill bosses in the prison of elders to earn points. 1000 points are needed and challenge bosses are worth more (lvl 32-35 are worth a good deal more than lvl 28 bosses)
28-75 points
32-250 points
34-350 points
35- unknown (just do level 34 boss 3 times to complete fast)
6. Return to Variks to collect your weapon
(Also confirmed you have a chance to change your initial choice of weapon at this point)

15 RepliesJust finished the cipher leveling in the POE, which so happens to be the last step before acquiring the weapon of your choice. So after grinding the level 32 Urrox boss exactly 5 times I was able to go back to the Reef, and visit Variks. I solidified my choice and decided to go with my initial want, Queensbreaker Bow. IT. IS. AWESOME.

Thank you for creating this post it really helps people stuck on the bounty, however a few sources of information are incorrect. (As a person who has a fully maxed Queenbreakers Bow I know what im talking about). The waiting period for Variks to summon you is completely random, it doesn't necessarily scale in intervals of 24 hours, it can be after any amount of time. Also for killing bosses in the PoE the 32 boss only gives 200 points and I believe the 35 gives 500 points (according to a friend that has Lord of Wolves) other than great information :D

Kill Skolas in a char that has yet to kill him that week and wipe on the mines. Hopefully this will not count as a weekly completion and will therefore allow you to farm boss kills until you get the Cipher.

4 Replies**update** Just played a level 32 final boss and my elder cipher became a queens cipher when i opened the chest. Now I just traded it in to Variks and last step is to wait for the summoning. I'll report back my wait time. It's currently 5:28 PST

An excerpt from planet destiny: It’s unconfirmed whether or not it can drop multiple times in the same week for the same character, but I doubt it will. However, you are able to farm for the initial bounty if you don’t have it yet. It doesn’t only drop on the first completion, so feel free to keep doing a full run of 34 and/or 35 PoE You can farm cipher bounties, there are a lot of people commenting saying you can't, it turns out you can farm them

12 RepliesDude i have been waiting since wednesday for Variks to summon me. And i have played a lot of hours since then, well over 24-48. This kinda sucks.. I'm starting to think its glitched. Everytime i'm in orbit there is the green explanation mark above the reef but when i get there, there is nothing for me. I want my Queenbreakers bow!

I think the wait time goes from 24 hour all the way up to a few days because I'm on 52 hours and still waiting. Have seen a few other in my position too. Kinda lame
