You want a reason for optional matchmaking not being in the Trials of Osiris? Here's one: Match made teams are going to be at a severe disadvantage compared to those who know each other and can properly strategize. Thus, the devs don't want any easy rides to get the good loot in the game by beating a piss poor randomly generated team.

Plus there's a chance you could be put in the game at the last minute when your team is about to lose.

So then why have optional matchmaking for IB ? Literally, what is the difference ? ToO and IB both offer endgame content. The only difference is ToO has zero optional matchmaking and it looks like Bungie is trying to avoid that as much as humanly possible. You can still get with a team of randoms, using no communication what so ever, and still beat built teams from LFG sites or the recruitment section in IB. I do not understand what people has against optional matchmaking ? It's a win/win situation for EVERYONE. Relying on LFG sites is almost the same exact thing as being put with randoms in matchmaking. You don't know each other, you don't know each other's strategies. The only thing it does is give you the option to link up with people using gear and/or subclasses that you want on your team, along with using mics for communication. Avoiding options is the worst mistake that can be made. A game, or anything in life for that matter, with little options will result in negative outcomes. That's just the way it is. I will personally go with built teams on my friends list that are luckily half decent at PVP and we know each other's strategies and we listen to each other. Not everyone has that and should still be able to participate in endgame content. There should be no restrictions to things like this other than things like the Lighthouse where teams put in strong effort to go flawless.

All they have to do is matchmake randoms with randoms and premades with premades.
-
That would make it much too easy for a great lone-wolf player to get rewards.
-
This would work, but I'm sure that's easier said than done.
-
It's no different than me going onto lfg or recruitment forum, the people I find there I don't know - they are complete strangers and pretty random.

Exactly.

As it is, I have seen very few even matches in ToO. So I think your argument is moot. Their system is broken. At least with matchmaking, teams could be created that were optimally matched against each other such that the games would be competitive. Right now, under the current system that you advocate for, matches are rarely close. Thus, the current system is broken. Why not change it? And, again, sounds like this wouldn't affect you since you play with people you know, so why do you care whether Bungie implements optional matchmaking?
-
Yes, some matches are lopsided right now, but adding matchmaking would make it even worse so my argument is not moot. The system in place it's just fine, the reason why many of these matches are so uneven is because people just suck at the Crucible and can't communicate effectively. Also, if there were to be optional matchmaking then it would affect everyone, not just the match made players. There would be a larger pool of weak players. This would made it easier to obtain high end rewards which would normally have to be clawed for, but we got lucky with the large amount of randoms. It's false victory.

The scenario you describe is already dealt with by having level advantages enabled. other than that having optional matchmaking hurts no one. (Try-hards feeling that a larger amount of people would be able to get the Osiris gear like it somehow cheapens their victory and gear are such fools, its the saddest argument ever) If anything the influx of max leveled people will stiffen the competition since the game is more about what you have than your skills. By next week you will see groups of all level 34s beating the stuffing out of under-leveled players making the trials not only harder but also more than a bit unfair for those getting late to the party. There are no downsides to OPTIONAL matchmaking. Those that abhor the Idea are never forced to participate on it and those that want/need it already know they roll the dice on the quality of the match made players.

There are no downsides to optional matchmaking. Exactly.

I don't even know where to begin with what you said. I'm just happy that Bungie will NEVER implement matchmaking for the Trials. Those that argue against it clearly can't see why it's an issue. The devs aren't as stupid as many of us believe. They've actually thought this one out.

Edited by AlexisRivera: 5/23/2015 7:31:45 PMDevelopers being stupid is not really the case they are just lazy as hell, nearly everything from the DLC has this recycled quality to it absolutely zero innovation. 3v3 last team standing or elimination is an ancient mode seen done better in many games before this (Basically every call of duty ever...) and the rewards are just cosmetic in the sense they are no better than the gear found elsewhere in the game if you must argue that any of this is too complicated for them or for the player-base to understand then we are just not going to agree.
