The second thing that Variks says to you is, "I will help you find Skolas and you will say good things to Petra." It sounds to me like he has a crush on Petra (understandable). This would be hilarious if true and should be expounded upon.
Also Variks mechanical elbows are impossible, there is no mechanism that works them.

Petra and him have so much chemistry together, I love it. Plus they've both lost body parts. Maybe Variks had something comforting to say to Petra, about losing her eye.

It truly is amazing at how much better Bungie got at directing voice acting. As for Petra's eye patch, I imagine that she has some sort of x-ray eye bionic under it to give her an advantage over fools. I wonder what a race with four eyes would think of having only one eyes let alone two.
