Bungie has yet to reach the same caliber of storytelling as in Halo (far from it, in fact) but you have to admit these story missions were just a little bit more entertaining; I couldn't help but chuckle a bit at some of the dialogue from Petra and Variks. ESPECIALLY Variks...
"That was the commander of the Silent Fang. He just called you a, uh... well, it was an insult."

"The 'Kell of Kells'? Did he just give himself a promotion?"
"Old Fallen legend. It seems that Skolas believes that he is some kind of prophet... that, or he has gone quite mad."

"You are to deny Skolas House Kings. They do not know this, and they would not care... they will try to kill you. Kill them back..."
1 ReplyEdited by threeDcubed: 5/21/2015 7:39:51 AMMeh. It was certainly better than Crota, but not by very much. Video games are principally a visual medium, so where the heck were the cutscenes? And where was the interaction between my character and the Queen? Or anyone else? And one voiceover from the Queen at the end? Weak. I'm also getting a little tired of reading "lore" in the app. I'm an avid reader, but if I want to read, I'll pick up a book. The "lore" should be complementing the story, not taking its place. And this is supposed to be my story, after all. But I haven't felt like I was a part of either DLC. More of a spectator than a participant. I love the game in most respects, but for me, it fails utterly in the story department.

Copying a comment I made on a different thread.
Variks is awesome. I wish they would explain more. Like how he lost his arms, or whether or not they grow back. At least two Grimoire cards reference that they grow back, but there are also cards talking about fabrication of arms. Taniks has all of his arms replaced with mechanical ones, but if they grew back they wouldn't stay like that. Reading the Grimoire cards you realize that the Fallen are basically like us. The Traveler visited them, they had a "Collapse" like we did. They were somehow able to navigate through the darkness and follow the light. They need the Traveler to save their people and they think we're hoarding it. I think there is going to be a lot of parallels to the Elites in Halo; where it's revealed that we're not the true enemies.

Wait it has a story????
-
Edited by itsGhostMage: 5/21/2015 9:51:24 AMI thought it was pretty good for how short it was. Definitely would've liked new locations (except the Terminus). Y'know, like how the Crucible maps are in completely new places, such as the European Dead Zone!
-
I enjoyed the story, but the grimoire cards were awesome!
-
3 Repliesstorytelling of Mario Brothers tradition " our Princess is in another castle '
-
Personally I enjoyed it.
-
9 RepliesNah. Story was lame. I didn't feel for the characters. I didn't like it. Was boring. Vex what? So in like 5 minutes from breaking out of prison this dude who was frozen for years just...figures out how to not only bust open the VoG but use their fates and time travel? Bwahaha. No. Sorry. Not buying it. And if he could do that why not just go back in time to before the queen blew up his army? Or anything but stand there and get beat up by one single guardian! Really bad story. Really just awful.
-
There was a story? I thought it was just excuses to go the opposite way through areas that already existed.
-
1 ReplyYou didn't even include the best line! "Yesterday I was delivering court orders, today we're delivering explosions!" -Petra
-
Much better than TDB Throw in a cutscene or two and I would say it had a better story than the base game I loved that we got to go back to the starting area finally even if it was just for one mission
-
8 RepliesThe mission were neat and a little more complex. Still lacking though. But they would need to tell the story through cutscenes, and the community would hate that I'm sure
-
9 RepliesThe story was good. Especially if you look deeper into the grimoire. The taken king won't be hive related. It's going to be the beginning of an uprising, from the fallen. So amazing.
-
24 RepliesIt was great until the final mission. The gravity lift has taunted me for a long time. I finally get up there ready to explore every single corner of that place because I find the Vex so interesting only to do some platforming and an unimaginative fight that is the usually stacking of odds against you. /yawn Come on Bungie. Give me more on the Vex. Also, why doesn't PoE play into the story better. Also, WHY is he "dragging" the HoW through time? Bungie has this annoying habit of having lines of dialogue that go no where. It's like that annoying kid we all knew in school that would say dumb shit like "I know a secret, but I can't tell you what it is"
-
Well when the customer wants to get the end game shit right away, why would bungie waste their time on the story? I want story, but I don't blame them for blowing it off.
-
6 RepliesI really liked it. It was neat and the missions were fun, and it was very transparent how your actions fit into the story. I like Petra and Varik's voice acting. My biggest problem with Destiny's story is that the story and setting is pretty -blam!-ing cool, but Destiny the game is such a bad platform for telling it. I really want to see a Destiny single player game so we can get a more fleshed out story (Not the same story. New story. Better story).

There was a story?
-
What story ??
-
Variks is my new favorite NPC. So I definitely liked this story and dialogue a lot more
-
I actually liked it a helluva lot more than Eris' missions and quests.
-
It was much better than the dark below and probably better than the original story
-
It was great!
-
It was better than the rest of the story.
-
oh it was great and it also hinted at a bigger thing yet to come.
