Treasure keys have ruined the game
I feel like this is a really important element to HoW that Bungie never bothered to mention.
From what I understand (and please correct me if I am wrong) you get one for finishing the story and from then on the only way to obtain them is to;
- wait for a HoW public event
- find the etheric key chest
- pray to RNGesus you actually get one
These keys are then used to open the chest when you finish PoE. Chests containing not only exotics but ETHERIC LIGHT and other important currencies.
So am I to understand that aside from the guaranteed Armor/Weapon core you get for finishing PoE level 32+, there is no point in doing it if you haven't farmed keys?
Please confirm whether or not this is correct. If farming these keys is now the largest element to this game and the only way to get rewards in PoE I think I may be done (bye Felicia). I just want to play and maybe get good rewards, not farm and maybe get a key!
*Will the guy at the reef tower be giving out a free key each week?

According to every other post "blank" will ruin, finish, kill and or destroy Destiny. Look at it this way. If things had a high drop rate, we would be done with the game yesterday. Farming is frustrating, farming is mundane, but once it does drop. You will be more excited than if it drop all the time. Just my opinion.

Agreed. I havent got a single key from those chests. And I'm not lookin g forward to grinding them either.

The key is for a queens weapon and an exotic roll that's it (maybe a few others) but not etheric light and not armor and weapon cord those are automatically dropped for you before you hit the chests I mean I wouldn't know I only have gotten ten keys

It's obvious they are catering to those who have endless hours to play. I finally found my first key last night and really bothered to look at the vandal vendor. I found out that I now have to grind PoE to get him to level 1 to be able to use the tokens for gear. How about, NO. Grind for keys, grind for level with all the different vendors, grind to level gear and weapons........ This is getting out of hand, I have 3 chars, my clan still wants to do the raids every week and I just don't have that kind of time for all the grinding. Just make the loot like a raid, each main loot chest opens once a week and loot depends on difficulty.

6 RepliesBump, this key idea is -blam!-ing stupid. You work your ass off to beat the POE and then unless you spent countless hours farming chests that mostly don't produce shit and aren't lucky enough to get a key your basically shit out of luck. Honestly who at Bungie comes up with this shit? The game itself is great but someone over there really just likes coming up with absurd ideas to piss the people that play the game off. I actually have a job and a life outside of Destiny and don't have countless hours to spend farming chests. Would it really cause that much of a rift in the game to guarantee a key for completion for each character once a week?

At least they give you a key for finishing the story,they didn't have to do that. And now you complain because they finally did something to reward the players who solely play their game. If people want to casually play the game they can casually be rewarded with their rewards one per week for all end game activities. People who grind the game are now rewarded for their efforts and aren't just stuck helping people through activities unrewarded. You'll probably find that more players are willing to help out now knowing they can at least open the chest at the end. So thank you for the keys bungie. Ohh and all the "xur needs to sell ghorn" posts will slowly diminish seeing as the new chest loves to give them out.

In the treasure room...those two smaller chests next to the big one...yea those can give you keys and etheric light. I farmed the level 28 prison of elders for like two hours and got 3 keys not to mention the 3 I already had from the story and one that I got pre dlc. You can also get them from nightfalls weeklies and raids. They also drop in crucible. Lord Saladin will also sell etheric light during iron banner. Maybe you're jus unlucky but don't give up until you've exhausted every option into finding them. This is a lot more fun then the original race to level 30 Which was fun at first but then became very harrowing and obnoxious. Hang in there, you can even get these things in trials of osiris as well which I feel will have a higher drop rate. What you should focus on is variks. In about 3 weeks, if he doesn't sell the same thing twice you should have All prison of elders gear anyways, assuming you do the level 32 mode each week. Like I said hang in there and use everything at your disposal to get these items, I couldn't imagine them making it easy to acquire these items because that would mean you basically paid 20 bucks jus to get your rank to 34 in like 6 hours. I'm jus grinding for weapons, treasure keys and etheric light will come eventually, remember when everybody and their mom needed ascendant materials and the only way to get them was by doing vault... now I'm sure everyone has a huge pile of that material....anyways I hope it gets better for you.

The way I understand it is you get one go at the chest once per week, if you have keys then you can open the chest as many times as you have keys so it's not much different to a raid for people who can't grind

6 Repliestheres no pleasing this community. in previous raids u get the chance to get loot only once a week from raid chests and drops and no one complained. now PoE gives u a key for completing it once a week in each of the higher difficulty minus lv28 and now gives u a chance to dip in multiple times by getting keys from other sources and u complain? there is no pleasing you people.

they can drop from the boss of the prison and also you get rewards from the side chests anyway

I'm glad I read this it sounded like there were so many positive comments. I won't be playing again anytime soon if this is the case and the fact they still haven't bumped the ARs.

This is what they wanted everybody to do. Grind for useless shit a key. They're losing massive player every day but at the end of the day, they still getting paid.

[b]Sucks to do the whole thing and not be able to open the big shiny chest!![/b] You're basically out of luck if you're not one of those with insane focus to farm chests. Never had less fun in destiny til that whole idea came along.

9 RepliesA way around it is to throw a characters stuff in the vault and delete it, restert the character to 20 which can be done in a day and a half then do the quests, it is long but its garunteed and has worked better for me than ether chests, and you beat reset and can redo all the stuff.

My only concern is that if they dropped more often then it would be too easy to get gear. I ran the 28 PoE on each of my characters and got great loot every time. If I had more than just one key then their generous drops would just become easy and broken. Just my opinion though!

19 RepliesThat is not how it works. On 28, a key is required. 32+, you will be able to open the chest once a week on one character without using a key. I tried this out personally and it is true
