Call of Duty is easily the Best FPS on the Market today and has been for almost 18 years and is one of the greatest of not THE greatest gaming franchise of the past 2 decades and this thread is going to break down exactly why that is.
Call of Dutys campaigns be it its WW2 roots or its more futuristic brothers has always been incredibly cinematic and well crafted, each story a well woven piece of art basically that makes most modern shooters today feel like they have highschool writers. Couple this with smooth graphics and an engine continuously upgraded and modified with each new release the games look beautiful and the campaigns can have incredible scenery and action all put into one package making for a incredible experience in each. The campaigns also have many collectibles for the truly hardcore completionists out there so the game isnt entirely casual oriented for campaigns.
Now onto Multiplayer, Call of Duty was the shooter that revolutionized the genre allowing extremely customizable loadouts for multiplayer and a unique rank earning system giving players an actual goal in Multiplayer to strive for where you could earn your weapons become proficient with them and earn camo/skins for the weapons and even new attachments that change how you use the gun, the customization of the games classes only got more and more flexible as new CoDs rolled out with better class systems. As the games pushed into new installments the hardcore crowd was given more incentive to play Multiplayer with the Prestige system allowing you to re-rank back up with new rewards such as callsigns and with newer games even ingame cosmetic armor. CoD also introduced the Score/Kill Streak system which allows and rewards good players with devastating map streaks that in earlier Call of Dutys were quite neat but as they progressed became more and more powerful and diverse leading to games where each player would have their own set of killstreaks they could access instead of the same 3 everyone else had in earlier CoDs.
Later, CoDs would also introduce alternative game modes such as Survival, Extinction, and the all time favorite Zombies all of which have both hardcore and casual draws to them making them fun for anyone looking for a different experience from Multiplayer or Campaign.
This casual and hardcore combination led to CoD being one of the highest selling games of the modern day market that appeals to both parties while still maintaining a fun factor in it all means that its undoubtedly the best FPS game of this decade and the last.

Correction: CoD was one of the best FPS's on the market. Modern Warfare was the pinnacle and actual game changer. MW2 remained fun and the series looked great. After that, it had been a steady slide downhill. Ghosts and Advanced Warfare are an absolute joke and the franchise is falling apart. CoD introduced a few elements, but Halo has more influence on the way FPS's are nowadays than CoD. The series needs a complete overhaul or needs to just be abandoned at that point.

3 RepliesEdited by Promethean241: 5/20/2015 1:38:52 AM7 reasons why Halo is the best, short and sweet style: 1.) Saved a whole damn console 2.) Provided the largest world ever seen in an fps during it's time period 3.) Customization 4.) A story with depth 5.) No signs of fatigue 6.) That sexy control scheme 7.) Absolute devotion to it's fans (with 343 anyway). Fans always get what they request with this series, and don't deny it. Edit: You say CoD revolutionized multiplayer? When Halo came out, it had every game developer shitting it's pants because this game was so good. It wasn't the soundtrack, or the campaign, it was multiplayer. Halo was the reason you'd look out your window and see a bunch of teens strolling down the street with a black box and a TV. Halo had balanced multiplayer that gave every player the chance to kill one another. While loadout customization is great and all, it doesn't give everyone a fair chance like equal loadouts do.

WaW probably had the best multiplayer Had to earn nubetubes/scopes for rifles Vehicles in all game modes before patch Limbs flying off Flame thrower Ghille suit worked

well crafted, each story a well woven piece of art basically that makes most modern shooters today feel like they have highschool writers.
I had to laugh at this, seriously? Call of duty has some of the worst story writing ever, it all feels like it is just written by some american teenager, there are terrorists get them, good job private you killed them and one of your teammates died and/or betrayed you, you get a promotion. Their stories are the most boring and unmemorable stories of almost any fps i have played, the only game that might match its terrible stories is battle field 3 and 4 (the bad company games actually had a pretty cool story). After 3 call of duty basically gave up on writing, but i guess that is bound to happen when you move away from writing about the past (which has a fair amount of reference materials and stories already made for you to use), and try actually coming up with something new. Ps: i have played the campaign of every call of duty except for the latest one (before you try and say that i must not have played which ever one you feel has the greatest story of all time)

If you actually deny that COD has not revolutionized games then you are just hater that can't see any other but your own. I hate Tom Brady but I will not deny he is a great QB. If you hate COD then don't comment. Nobody cares about your opinion, they have their own. You people just want to start an argument to call better about yourselves.

Up to Blops2 this was true. And then it went downhill.

2 RepliesTl;dr the entire franchise is trash and should have been scrapped years ago.

10 RepliesBf4 is so much better bf4 would have beat ghosts last year if it was not glitchy campaign was better sure cod has good moments but bf4 has more depth and variety in its gameplay look at cod like a apples and oranges thing cod is so simple and repetitive same repackaged BS where as bf4/hardline mixes it up a bit from driving jets to tanks blowing up skyscrapers to fast paced infantry battles in op locker and metro but really it's down to player preference
-
100% true!

I agree with your thoughts on campaign, except for Ghosts. That one could've been done better.

3 RepliesCall of duty and all other FPS wouldn't have a foot hold on console with out Combat Evolved paving the way. The irony of CoD fanboys owing it all to Halo is delicious.

1 ReplyMy last interest in COD was BLOPs. After that it seemed all the same.....spawn, run to point A, throw grenade get kills, move to next spot. I just found the infantry only fighting to be tiresome after awhile.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA.... Oh Odin, I'm dying.

Doubt it. Has nothing on Halo. Doesn't even deserve to be in the presence of halo. Even battlefield is better.
